Hi I am after some legal advice regarding my bike insurance. I will be contacting trading standards tomorrow however before I do I was hoping to get some opinions from PEOPLE IN THE KNOW to see if you think i have a case or not.
Basically I have been insured on a multi bike policy for the past 5 months but now due to summer ending I have sold off my summer bikes and bought a winter hack. So thinking it would be a simple process I rang my insurance company to change my policy to my new bike.
Long story cut short it worked out more beneficial to cancel the policy and take out a new one which would give me £££ back my way, great I thought, lets do it.
When I phone them up to cancel the policy and take out the new one they say they cant refund me until the old certificates are returned however they said if I pay for the new policy they can insure me. I couldnt afford to pay them again as they already owed me money from the policy i just canceled so I said I would post the certificates back 1st class the next day.
I rang them back a few days later to change my policies and get my refund, only to be informed that my certificates hadnt been recieved and that their postal department was in arrears and it could take a few more days. So I left it a few more days for the certs to turn up, rang them again and was told there was no sign of the certs So they say they will send out a 'lost certificate declareation' for me to sign and return, one week later and there is no sign!
I ring them again saying bla bla its not turned up and this time request to speak to a manager the manager says he will get a new form sent out that day... monday comes... tuesday comes and here we are today with no form. I ring them again and they tell me the forms been sent today... 4 days later than they said it would be. So feeling very pissed off I ask if they can do this whole thing via email which they agree to and I return the signed form within 30 minutes of them sending it me! great I think its nearly done...
So i ring them back after sending the email and they say thats fine, they pass me through to audit department and she starts taking my details then says she needs to check the quotes given, she comes back to me and says because a further month has past they can not refund the total amount that was agreed before.
I then asked to speak to the manager and explained to her that because of her companies negligence a month has past in which I have had no insurance to ride the only vehicle that I own (sold the insured bikes over 2 months ago), i basically feel that they have been purposely dragging the process out in order to keep my money, i have informed her that I shall be contacting trading standards, she is going to requote me tomorrow with how much she can refund. To be honest Im soo angry.
So do I have anything? Anything at all to stand on? I feel like i have been robbed of a months insurance because they are so fucking unorganised and the amount of negligence on their behalf overwhelms me. |

Complain me thinks it'll do jack ,
just bad refefence them on bike forums , like Sickpup did with that place that refused to lend him tools to change his tyre.
Or that kid who complained against DK
Or me who complained against ESB,
this cuts both ways , I hate 3 shops and tell peeps never to go to them , I highly recommend 2 shops and give them good references,
the WWW is ideal for this as it causes a cascade effect, post on BCF and 1000s will see your rant (if justified) and will avoid ,
me 've never been to DK but won't ever go there as I trust the judgements of those on the BCF for recommendations. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
