Lock-Wiring

Could anyone point me in the right direction of websites which explain with photos the principles behind lock-wiring. I quite fancy a go and seeing as my bike will be track only anyway, it's not going to be detrimental to it's value.

I understand the principles but would like to see a few photo's to get the general feel for it.

It's probably a waste of my time and effort, but as I say, I quite fancy a go.

Ironically says it's taken from a bike site.

It's worth lock wiring on a track bike for the same reasons racers do it - ie to stop oil dumping it's self over your rear tyre if anything's loosened by vibrations.
Most of my efforts don't look very 'professional' and I've generally been criticised by good and his Navy training; however they still do the job.

Cheers G, I'd spotted that article someplace else on Google. I was hoping for some Photos to get a feel for how you start/finish a ring of sprocket bolts for example.

Ive seen the Motrax Kit, is this a good place to start or is it worth spending a bit more?

I'd go for the 'standard' lock wire pliers myself. A little more along with a tub of lock wire; but should last you for ever.

I tend to just twist the end around the last/next bit of lock wire. Not sure what the ‘proper’ way to do it is, however suspect it’s like I do it, but a tad neater .]
Are you planning to have different sprockets for different tracks? Unless you’ve got lots of sprocket carriers, I wouldn’t lock wire the rear sprocket as it’ll annoy you next time you change it.
Might consider doing the front – but on most bikes this should have it’s own locking device (usually a washer).

I’m not sure if you’d get much from most of the photos I’ve seen of lockwiring – as you’d need quite a lot of detail to see exactly what has been done.
