Well no prizes for guessing I'm new here :waves: Been lurking since I bought my first bike a couple of months back and after failing my test for the first time (and last hopefully) yesterday I, for some perverse reason, wish to post about it here.

Firstly let me show you my bike. It's a gsxr 600 srad, x reg, a little over 6000 miles on the clock, only 1 or 2 little scuffs and mine for the sum of £2000. Not too bad, if I do say so myself.

Apologies for the dodgy phone cam and garage light combination.

Now onto the damned test. Have had about 7/8 lessons. More than enough but just one every weekend till the earliest available test date. Was pretty confident on the day that I would be okay and if I was going to fail on anything it was going to be the u-turns, or so I thought.

Had about 45 mins - hour before the test to just go over a few things and for the first 15 mins my riding seemed great, very natural. Then it came to a right hand turn in the road. Thankfully there was a bit to pull into for anyone turning right and I patiently waited for a gap to appear in the traffic. Once it was safe to turn I started off and before I knew it the bike was lying on the ground. I must of had it in the wrong gear and instead of going forward it just dropped. Managed to stay upright myself but no chance in saving the bike.

So confidence is completely knocked now for the next 30 mins as I haven't even come close to doing this on any of my lessons but I eventually pick up and try to put it behind me when the test starts.

Within the first couple of minutes he had me doing the u-turn and emergency stop. Now the road he had me doing it on was the narrowest road I had ever attempted it on, well certainly looked it yesterday. Somehow with zero confidence I managed it and he had me going straight into the emergency stop.

The emergency stop was absolutely rediculous. He couldn't have been stood more than 6-7 metres away from where I started from and I wasn't sure whether he was gojng to do it or not. I could probably have stopped myself with my feet if I'd tried but his hand went up, I braked and we continued.

So to then to end of the road we go, while I'm still excited by my wonderous, in my eyes, u-turn and frankly puzzling emergency stop, and he has me turning right. Wait for the traffic and then go. Bike immediately starts to drop again but this time I'm sure as hell not dropping it so after what seems like an eternity of struggling I manage to force the bike back upright but by this time I knew I had failed. Continued the rest of the test without any problems.

Once back, after the pillion questions, he tells me he had to fail me for that junction. Seemed pretty sorry for me that I made that one mistake really as I only had 2 minors apart from that but oh well. Couldn't believe that I managed to do something twice in one day that I didn't even think was possible.

So now I wait till the next available date which is 11th Dec which just so happens to coincide with my B'day so I best do it then.

Note to Self: Fit crash bungs to GSXR

Bike looks nice.
Sure luxy will post saying wahey another SRAD:)

I don't see how you managed to drop it though?
Was it too heavy?
I don't really understand.

Really bad luck mate, and well done on the U-turn and emergency stop.
Sounds like an unlucky day Sad

I take it he started the turn and as the bike was begining to lean the engine stalled and he couldn't hold the weight of it as it'd already passed the point of no return? What it sounds like to me anyway...

Really sorry about the fail though foy, and lots of luck for next time!! Sure you'll be back on here to let us know the outcome. Bike looks wicked too, bet you can't wait to jump on it!

Yeah that's about it. Obviously I'm leaning right with my right foot over the brake so couldn't put my foot down quick enough to save it first time.

The main annoyance is the financial hit. Cost of retest plus hire of bike and because of it being nearly a month away I will probably have another lesson between now and then.

At least I can stop worrying about the u-turn now. Just need to concentrate on my gear selection a little.

The girl I was doing my DAS with, had problems with right turns. Instructor said she wasnt giving it enough revs,... its all about revs and clutch control. He advised her when pulling away,to pull away with both feet down, instead of one.... this helps with balance. (hope you get what I mean)

I did this on my test, and it works, but each time I did it I got a minor...(passed ok, but with 7 minors - 5 for feet down - the examiner said I looked like a ped rider !!)
