starting problem

Hi All

Have a '04 cbr125.. had it for about 6 months and had no problems with it until last week..

it will not start from cold unless bump started,

i first thought the battery maybe a little flat so gave it a full charge.. put it back on the bike and you could tell it had lots of power in it as the engine was turning over well, however still did not start..

and so i bump started it (took three goes), once started the bike runs well and rev's well.

once started you can switch off and then use the electric starter to start the bike without a problem...

leave the bike for 5-6 hours then you have to bump start it again...

also (don't know if its related)
i have never been able to use the choke, pull it out even a fraction and it stalls the engine...even on these cold mornings...

anybody have any ideas as to what could be wrong???

Initially i thought the battery might be deader than you thought. Then I started wondering why you were trying to put the choke on when the engine was already running. From a cold engine, put choke on, no throttle, THEN try to start bike. Once running, choke off within a minute or so.

the freshly charged battery turns the engine over well, just will not start...

If i use any amount (even a fraction) of choke the engine will not start or if running already (ie just started) stalls it...

i am going to take the spark plug out this weekend and see what it is like..

It sounds like a Honda I used to own. Use full-choke on initial start-up. As soon as the engine ticks over, close the choke immediately and slowly open the throttle to about 1500-2000rpm in a coordinated fashion. Let it warm up well. Use the choke only when starting up from cold. I hope that helps.
