Well I thought I would tell you guys I came off my bike earlier. I was coming round a wet roundabout doing 20-25 when my back end decided to overtake the front.

The bike flew to the left with me on it and then flew back round to the right landed on my leg and slid off down the road. I tried getting up but just couldn't so I just laid there. My dad was there on a driving lesson (driving instructor) and loads of people stopped and told me not to move.

A really nice blonde woman blocked the road and a bloke who I presume was a biker came over and said 'don't worry mate I have done it before'.

It was a whole fiasco, I just wanted to get up and get my bike but I kept getting told to stay still. The ambulance and a police car came and I was put on a stretcher and taken to hospital. They took all my gear off and told me that if I hadn't have been wearing it I would have come off worse.

So anyways I have bruised and strained the muscles between my ribs and bruised the ligaments in my lower leg. Sorry for the long post just thought I would get it out.

that really makes me laugh when folks come up to you and think that by saying "you're not the first mate" it's supposed to make you feel better?

It may not help you feel physically better but it can sometimes be very embarassing falling over or off something, and some people think that it would help you to feel less embarrassed if they point out they've made similar mistakes in the past Confused But it's not the most useful thing to be saying most of the time...

It's funny how so many people are programmed with the "don't move them" command for injured people, especially RTA's. When a car knocked me off my bicycle and sent me summersaulting down the road I found myself lying on my back looking up at 12 or so faces all staring down at me muttering to each other "call an ambulance" "Don't move him" etc... After running a basic check on myself and asking the nearest person if I had blood gushing out of me anywhere I quickly issued commands to all the onlookers, "Help me up and don't bloody call an Ambulance! Can someone pick my bike up and get all this traffic moving again"


Hope you feel better soon tomkapsalis and everythings alright with the bike.

The "Don't move them" mentality is useful, but if the casualty wants to get up, and all their limbs are present and correct, why not let them? If they've damaged something important, they won't be able to / want to get up.

A friend of a friend slid off his 'bike one hot & sunny day. He was wearing full (black) leathers, and somehow fell off. The well-meaning bystanders wouldn't let him get up nor take his (black) helmet off, so he had to stay there, in the middle of the road in the full glare of the sun. The ambulance arrived and took him to hospital suffering heat exhaustion and dehydration... Confused

Anyway, glad to hear you're mostly OK - 'bikes are easier to fix than broken bones. Roundabouts can be a nightmare in the wet - but I think you've probably worked that out Wink

Great point....Love the get me up and get the traffic moving part. Sounds the same as something I would say.

before. Happened once when I had a 40+mph mountain Bike smash and the adrenalin shut my legs down.. Smile.
