I Have a friend who owns a right heap of crap of a scooter!

He has found that the bike gains and looses speed randomly (one min its doing35/40 then its doing 10/15. Laughing

It wont accelerate up hills! at all Razz

Brick Wall - And today we came back to his 'scooter' and found a small puddle of 2-stroke oil on the floor around it Thumbs Down

Other problems:

1. Electric start - works, but wont start bike Exclamation
2. Right indicator (back doesn't work, front flashes like its on drugs)
3. Large Amounts of Blue smoke comes from the 'rusty' exsuast
4. Centre Stand 'fell off' --> seriously it just fell off when he was riding and he didn't stop to pick it up, dont think he realised it he fallen off Brick Wall Clapping

Think there are a few others, can't remember

Anyway, Has anyboby got an idea why its doesn't acc. or reasons why the bike doesn't seem to run 'right' Question

The problem with the indicator i think is electrical because the bulb in the indicator works!

Parts of the wiring could do with being striped and rewired! (i think)

Gonna have a look at the conections at a later date!

BTW The bike has 21000 (ish) km on the clock but that was from a year ago, as the speedo stopped working back then and a good 3000/4000 miles been put on bike since. So prob. looking at a scooter with 25000-28000km on it

If you want i'll try get some pic's, but really aint much too show, except that it is not cared for! Thumbs Up

1: Check the battery. I'm assuming you can kick start the bike? If not its probably lack of compression, see question 3 re needing a rebuild.

2: You have answered your own question. The working one flashes faster because the other one is knackered. Replace the dead bulb and this will be fixed.

3. Sounds like the bike is very unhealthy, probably in need of a top end rebuild. Bet you could get a replacement standard exhaust off ebay for naff all. That would minimize the smoke. Try replacing the pipe first as it could just be that.

4. Buy one of ebay.

The bike sounds like it really needs a good service. Rollers and belt will probably really worn (crap acceleration and top speed) as well as the engine needing some work. I would also clean the airfilter and the carb as I'm sure that needs doing.

So, things to do
*replace belt and rollers (£20)
*new spark plug (£3)
*clean air filter and carb (just blast some some carb cleaner into the carb while its running)
*replace indicator bulb (£2ish)
*replace pipe and centre stand

If its still running badly I reckon its worth having the top end done.

Dave

edit: Just spotted you said the bulb works. Check there is power getting to it using a multimeter (if you haven't got one they can be had for under £5. Also clean the contacts with wire wool.

21000 kms is defently time to decoke the exhaust. you can do this chemically or by cutting the can open and burning the carbon out.

back in the day when i had a little scooter. i did it to it and it was like hopping on to a new bike. Very Happy

good luck
