Take it you work night shift? I used to go for a week in the winter without seeing daylight, used to do 6 12hour night shifts in a row. Started to think I was vampire at one point (turned out to be lack of sleep!) Twisted Evil LOL!!!

You do get used to it eventualy Mr. Green

Not too bad to get used to. Unless you have to due to some form of conastraint's, or you really enjoy it, I wouldnt advise it long term personally though.

During the summer you'll end up sleeping for 8-10 hours rendering your days useless. Not time to go out on your bike or see anyone, grates a bit after a while.

Studies have proved a positive correlation between night workers and certain illness' and even cancers.

One girl where I worked manage to make herself suffer from fatigue.

I noticed my immune system/health was generally worse whilst on nihgt shift's. I was also alot unhappier I beleive due to lack of social interaction and of daylight.

Some people seem to cope with it fine, though this is the minority. Your body isn't nocturnal and isnt designed to cope with it imo.

Nightshift's are almost always 12 hours as well, which is a long and tiring time, day or night.

I've been working shift for about 15 years now (4 days, 4 off, 4 nights, 4 off) and have never found any problem with working nights (12 hours with an hour commute at each end). I find going to bed at 8am and getting up no later than 2pm does me fine. That gives me 4 hours to do whatever I need to do and get ready to head to work.
I can't say I've ever noticed any ill effects on my health, but MrsHippy does seem to think I am more grumpy on my first day off than I used to be Confused

I did 12 hr nights for 9 months. It made me really ill in the end , I got every virus and bug going. The fact i was trying to combine this with single parenting a 2yr old might of had something to do with it though !

I would never work nights. The thought makes me cringe. I have also heard it damages your health quite badly.

It's quite good fun in short bursts.

However, some of the guys who had always worked nights at TTI looked like albino monsters Shocked

Your dads situation illustrates the fact that night work per se is not responsible... combining it with shift work which can and does change often, does not allow your body to develop a uninterrupted biorhythm..

Thumbs Up

Its the constant swapping between early / late shifts and nights that will knacker the body.

Night shifts rule. Thumbs Up

Swapping to other shifts is a pain, nothing worse than 3 double backs in a row.

I used to work nights, 5 nights a week that included the weekend. So my weekend became Monday and Tuesday.

Social life went down the pan but I ended up with loads of money that I didnt really have time to spend.

Soon found a woman to take care of that. Have been paying ever since. Neutral

I am upset now.

I worked nights for 13 years. I loved it. I earned 33% extra in my wage packet, it was nice and quiet so I could just get on with the job without being pestered by managers. I was single at the time though. Wouldn't recomend it if you are married or living with your other half. You only get to see each other at the weekend or off shift. other than that its a couple of 10 minute meetings per day. Crying or Very sad
