Brilliant write up Korn, Made excellent reading thanks. Im so jealous! sounds like an awesome trip. Ive only ever encountered europe as a blur on a sports bike because the roads just beg to be ridden fast, but i would love to actually take the time and do what you did. Worth looking into me thinks.

blinding write up! Thumbs Up
i'm considering a similar route for summer 2007.
ferry to either calais or bilboa.
ride the boarder to andorra (or straight to marseille)
over the mountain route to marseille (check out the beach & skate park)
there to monaco (obvious reasons)
check out some of italy
up through germany to the 'ring
day or two there for funsies
up to amsterdam. red light district et al.

checking out loads of cool stuff on the way.

Nice write up, a very interesting read. It certainly compells the reader to follow in your foot steps.

I do like the idea of staying on the trails and tracks, free camping where needed. It sounds like a lot of fun. Dang, I may just start looking for a trail bike right now.

One thing I particularly liked (apart from the trip itself) is your stiched photos. What did you use to join them as they seem very good?

Are you glad that you took the AT? Was there anything that you will change before your next trip?

Glad to see you had a good time. You packed a lot into a little time, and it seems to have worked nicely.

All the best.

They were done with this little tool: https://autopano.kolor.com/ - very pleased with how they came out, I just wish I'd taken more.

Yes, it handled itself well and didn't give me any trouble. For the money I don't think I could have gotten a better bike in terms of on/off road balance - the AT is great... Thumbs Up Smile

I'm hoping to take a three week trip around Spain next summer: exploring the trails, carving up the mountain roads, camping out in the wild every night. I want a better luggage setup for this, so instead of trying to stuff everything into roll bags bungied to the seat again I've gone out and aquired a set of proper aluminium panniers. Lots more room in these for food & beer and the weight is carried a lot lower down than my 'stack' arrangement, so it all feels much more stable when you're hacking over the rough stuff.

Great Adventure Korn. I would be a little worried about being stuck out in the middle of almost know where without any fuel as you did. Also that track you rode up in the darkness, only to discover how close to the edge is was when you return in the daytime is the stuff made of night mares eh?

well well well, we only live once eh!
Good one Korn, I liked the pictures really added to the atmosphere of the whole trip. Smile

Wow, great read!
Interesting to read about doing it on more off-road suited bike and going off and trailing your journey. Has definately put some ideas into my head. I usually just thought of the standard tourer on tarmac.

How did you find the off site camping? Did you just pitch up where you felt like it? whats the deal with camping illegally. (I'm sure in Scandinavia you can camp anywhere, but never knew about rest of Europe). Did you just chance it?

Ever since I did a month round Europe by rail with a friend I've wanted to do it by bike.
Think I'd do it with a friend though.. Don't wanna starve to death so high up if I break a leg! Smile

Also.. some of those long straight roads in Spain look adorable for speed freaks Smile
