I've just bought a bike and the petrol cap is goosed and i need a new one, i cannot find one specific to my bike and i've been told they are universal

How true is this?

if you have a honda, you might get one to fit off another honda

I believe its the standard Suzuki cap but put up a pic and I can tell for sure.
