hi,
i recently bought a 1989 tzr 125 but have been having problems with it. i took the air filter off and it runs perfect. so took the actual filter out the air box and put just the box back on and got the same dying problem as before. any ideas anyone?? i dont really know much about bikes so help would be greatly apreciated.

Get a colortune and check the mixture screw.

Typically if it runs fine with the filter off but dies with it on, you've got an over-rich mixture.

The colortune will help you.

Also, clean the filter.

Put it in a bowl of warm soapy water and soak it for a while. Let it dry naturally, don't wring it or fold it because it'll tear.

After it's dried lightly oil it with something like 10W30 motor oil and let it dry for a few hours before sticking it back in.
