Does anyone know what the advantages are likely to be in term's of finances, if any, of getting a crash damaged sports 6 and fitting flat bars/headlight, over say buying a Hornet?

Looking at bikes from 2002 what can I expect to pay in terms of initial costs (assuming superficial damage only), modifications and importantly insurance. Has anyone found the fighter/ratting route to be any more beneficial?

My main concern is the cost, running either would be similar due to the way I ride, and I'd not really notice the difference in handling due to how I ride.

Any help appreciated.

Hi

While the crashed / repaired bike might be a bit cheaper to get, it will be bugger all in resale value in the future.

Also expect to find odd problems. Check the threads about the TT600 that Marjay bought to fix up.

All the best

Keith

Re-sale value isnt an issue as I tend to run my bike's into the ground(covering lot's of mile's) and crash them a bit.

From what I can remember he had a duff engine and it lunched itself. Ensuring that a crash damaged bike is mechanically sound is a slight risk you take although obviously there is alot you can do to greatly reduce that risk and I am ok with that.

There was also a crack in one of the forks. For how much that bike in the end (including the new engine fitted by the guy he sold it to) he could have bought a perfect TT600.

If you do buy one then check VERY carefully for damage.

All the best
