https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6246969.stm

Look at this post, America spends so much on defence , space etc and yet its people are paid peanuts, with no NHS, no access to council housing, tax credits, benefits etc.

Just think what we have, I know everyone slams the NHS, but its free. Think if your poor here, your given money, house, schools are still free etc.

I have well off American relatives, but just look at the real America.

It is? So why have I paid thousands over the last few years in taxes if it's all free?

Me too i, I reckon I pay nearly a grand a month in taxes if not more.

But even if I paid £0 in tax it would still be free.

And thats what separates the UK and USA.

Its easy for you and me in good jobs Bupa etc, but its the fact that we have social care for everyone. no matter how much money you have.

I used to live in France and the French always rate their health care, but the thing is you have to pay. Okay you can claim 2 thirds back, but you have to pay.

I've lived in Ireland, France and England and we don't do badly at all. The papers just say we do and we believe it.

I'm hoping/guessing that when people say that the NHS is free they are simply shortening the phrase 'a large proportion of NHS services are free at the point of delivery'.

If they are not doing so and there are people who genuinely think the NHS is 'free' they need to be taxed more - money could be dangerous in their hands Shocked

the NHS is not free , we are all obliged by law to pay a state administered insurance system known as income tax and NI,

this is good as it removes the profit motive from such things.

Whereas in the US its often been considered since the state does cover a minimum level of health cover (absolutely minimal) and that many don't go see the doctor due to lack of insurance until it gets much worse at which the state covers it prevention = better than cure.

possibly cheaper for universal care than insurance.

the thing is there are two ways of getting 'rich' to export billions more than you import and to steal it off your own people,

China has resorted to absolute capitalism at all costs such that since '89 barely anything is paid for by the state, exports have gone through the roof and economic growth is incredible.

This leaves huge social divides however and leads to severe unrest

Wow. Not risen in a decade. Shocked A good video to watch is "Dear Mr President" by Pink. Just goes to show that about 10% of Americans own about 80% of it's wealth (same thing could be said about any country) although were made to believe that Americans lead the good life in the land of the free, brave and courageous. Because there are no 'greedy little money grabbing pigs' anywhere else in the world, right? And of course, our country is so perfect that we have every right to criticise the poor old Yanks for daring to do things differently. Thank goodness that we've eliminated poverty, crime and unequal health care depending on where you live and who you are!

yes i know that england isnt the perfect place to live and never will be tbh i dont like the way the england is run either we just tag along with the US which is getting us into all kinds of trouble (with terrorists) we should have just stay out of the iraq war as i believe US and the UK only invaded it for oil pure and simple... proving that the leaders in england are also greedy little pigs... as for the health care i believe this is where WE are the better i mean if a unemployed or person on minimum wage injurys thems selfs they can go to hospital and a good level of care and not have to worry about paying off massive debts.. but in the US a unemployed or person on minimum wage injurys themselves they have to over come there injury's and then pay off the hospital debt leaving them even poorer (for example in the documentary 30days where that guy and his wife try to live for 30days on minium wage they found it near imposable and had to take up second jobs and when one of them got injured [think it was the guy] he was thinking about not going to hospital because he couldnt afford it... they also had to get free furniture from a church day thing aswell as they couldnt afford it and they had to go hungry because they couldnt afford it)... i know in this country the last to will apply in some cases but at least they get healthcare

but we are all entitled to are own opinions and i will respect what opinion you have
on another note im sure if you have a reasonable amount of money im sure its quite a nice place to live (apart from parris hilton) cant stand her dont know why just cant
