Just wondering what is involved in unlocking a Mobile Phone, is it complicated, cheap, pain in the arse?

Basically I want to buy one of Tesco Nokia's which is locked to their network and use my old T-Mobile PYG sim card so I can keep my old number.

Cheers for any help, Cillit.

if it's a nokia, then some shops should unlock them for you for anywhere from 5-15 quid. Alternatively, if you have a pc then you can get some link cables off ebay, download a bit of software and unlock it yourself (and risk bricking your phone in the process).
Last I checked, the cables could be got for about five quid on ebay. I'd honestly recommend you get a shop to do it for you though.

You can unlock some Nokias quite easily just by entering a code - depends on the model (more likely to work with older models - or some of the cheap ones available on pay-as-you-go).

What model are you looking at?

Take a peek at https://nokiafree.org/

I have a K800i which is locked to Vodafone - and want to unlock it so I can use my O2 Sim in it.

Can you use the standard USB cable with certain software to unlock it - or do you need a special cable?

Or is there any way of doing it without using the Cable that isn't dodgy - like these randoms that ask for your IMEI code online

Thanks

You need a special cable to unlock any Sony erricson phone, the standard cable will not do it. You also need a small app you can buy from a website. Its easier and cheaper to use a shop to do it for you as you will only use the cable once.
