Hi,

Earlier today I had a nasty crash on my bike. I dont want to go into specifics until insurance is sorted, but my neck(among other things Rolling Eyes ) is killing me at the moment, so if i were to claim for whiplash do I need to go to the doctors tomorrow to get a note from them? Or do insurance companies take my word for it?

(before anyone worries, i spent a good 5 hours in hospital this afternoon so I've not broken bones in my neck/back.)

also, does anyone know if insurers will recover your bike from the police recovery yard? (mine comes with breakdown cover included if that makes a difference)

thanks,

Loz

edit: can i spell? no.

I would recommend A&E rather than the doctors, but yes, do seek medical advice - that way the insurance company can get confirmation of any injuries from the doctors.

And like Feef says - Please try and keep the rubber bits on the road!

You will need to go to the docters. Besides from it being needed if you make a claim you should go anyway if your neck is hurting!!!

Hi

Not sure, but probably depends on the particular insurance company, and only then if you are claiming.

Personally, give them a ring in the morning, and either way get it away from the "police" yard as quick as possible.

Presume it is actually in a random recovery companies yard rather than a police one though.

All the best

Keith

i am currently claiming against the met police for stupid driving and after phoning the insurance folks they said do i want to claim,

they then called me back and got the wheels in motion for a claims company to take over,
They sent me to get a free private medical examination.
since then i have been in touch with these appointed solicitors for about a year now.

'got the cops on the run now Police Twisted Evil '

i don't use devvit anymore and it wont affect my claim either, i'm with bennets now cos they answer their phone Thumbs Up Laughing

We do a lot of vehicle recoveries for a number of body repairers. Normally if you`re fully comp, after you`ve told the insurer about the accident, they contact the repairers who arrange a recovery from the yard.

In most circumstances, if the police organise the tow, it`ll go back to a recovery yard. Statutory charges are £105 call out plus £12 a day storage. VAT is not due on these sums.

Watch out for the solicitors, who will try to inflate your claim to the highest degree.....it could take a year or two to sort out, depending on what is involved. If you've got the stamina, you need to go with it, because the neck injury may plague you for years to come.

Right, I've got the bike back from the yard and its in a bit of a state. Ive notified insurers who are sending me a claim form, found out police incident number and officer in charge. Tomorrow Ill be taking it to a local garage to have it assesed. Is there anything I've missed?

Once I have his assesment do I call the insurers again, or do I add it to the claim form they send?

Get to your local GP even for a check up. When it comes to the crunch I think it would be far easier getting a letter from your GP because he knows you rather than the hospital which ship people in and out all the time. Even if your GP is just going on the info coming from the hospital thats still better than nothing.

Hope your ok and you get it sorted soon Thumbs Up

Hi caveman, yeah I went to the local Gp thingy, only got to see a nurse, but she looked me over and gave me written confirmation of various injuries.

Just a thought - theres a givi bike rack on it, for one of those monokey systems, so is it worth getting it taken off to use on a different for each bike? Or is each bikes rear mounting points different and you have to buy the specific models rack??

Also, the givi rack wasnt mentioned on insurance, so can i still claim for it as it might have been damaged?
