Hello,

I'd like to get some leather trousers with knee/hip protection.

They are expensive, but wondered if anyone had any advise about what they find the best . . . comfort, protection - value for money.

I'm lost looking on websites and don't want to splash out £175 on somehting I don't really like! Anyway, I can't really afford that much and would be keen to get second hand.

Thanks

J x

Go to your nearest friendly store and try some out for size, then see what you can find online.

I personally find textile a better fit, rather then leather, due to the breaking in you have to do with leather. However, I do have a pair of Hien Gericke trousers that aren't bad at all. Thumbs Up

Hey

I have 2 different pairs of leather jeans/trousers

MY favourite pair are Richa, I was given them. I think they cost over £100 but are very nice, lots of padding on the hips, they also have a built in kidney belt, The have perforations on the shin, great in the heat of summer, no good if you're caught in the rain as it seems to get forced through these holes.

My other pair are part of my 2 piece suit, Heine Gerricke Tribals. They're no where near as nice or as well put together as the Richa one. the stitching doesn't appear to be much cop either.

The Richa ones are a size 12, I'm an 8, 10 for a looser fit. So these are large on me, I still wear the Richa's over the gerrickes because they're that bit better.

I had a pair of Akito leather jeans, didn't think much to them, gave them away.

I often find that I'm fine to try leathers on they 'fit' but as soon as I get on the bike the waste digs in at the front and the knee armour pull son my knee caps as there isn't enough length.

Don't foget to do you're squats in the middle of the shop to see how thye feel Laughing

with regards to money - ebay, plenty of people at the moment selling leathers as they've eaten too many pies and can't fit back into them.
go to a shop and try on what they're selling (at least then if you go to try their pair on you'll know how worn/stretched/ saggy the arse is) or find pairs near you?
Hope this helps?

Do you mean just padded protection (they all come with some sort of knee/hip protection) or proper thick race-style protection?

Mine are Frank Thomas R-series (although they are a 1-piece), the protection in them are so good that when i fall off (which happened fairly often on my lessons Laughing ) i kind of bounced back off the floor.

You don't need to spend a lot to get good protection though. Go to the shops and try some on for size Smile

Beat me to it, Dave! According to Monkeypie's profile, she's in Herts, so a trip to the main GB2 shop in Hitchin is in order! They'll sort you out for what you need, and if you can't afford them new, at least you'll know which ones to look for on Ebay. My Spidis are fab but at £200, they better be.

I went to Girls to Bike today in Hitchen and have to say how impressed I was. Really great service, extremely helpfull staff.

Settled for cordura tousers, just can't justify money on leather - maybe one day 'sigh' Rolling Eyes

Was so tempting to buy out the shop! Umm - the leather jackets - think I'll get a second hand one.

Cool! Glad you got some trousers. Nothing wrong with Cordura either, it's more waterproof than leathers for a start! I bought my leathers there last spring and was also impressed with how helpful they are.
