if you go to
https://www.dsa.gov.uk
you can do a mock test and it appears as it does on the real test.

that mock exam has so many mistakes makes me laugh Smile

You park overnight on a road with a 40mph spped limit you should?

1. park facing the traffic
2. park with sidelights on
3. park with dipped headlights on
4. park near a street light

i would have gone for 4 as you cant leave your lights on over night unless you want a dead bike in the morning. they say the correct answer is 2......

yeah but they dont want reality answers.
the best thing is to pick the safest for yourself & those around you.
thats what they want to see.
i.e Q you want to overtake a long truck what do you do ?
reality= drop 2 gears and screw it as fast as you can.
they want drop back to see road ahead then wait forever until you die of old age.
so no some aren't practical in the real world, but you have to go with them to pass you theory.

Allthough I don't usually bother it can often help to drop back... you getter a longer run up so you're going faster as you pass and you can see whats going on a bit better.

G I thought you had a Ninja6???

If you do it won't matter about your run up, drop it 2 gears and pin the throttle back will be plenty won't it, without dropping back...

Not even sure I want to be in the same county as a lorry doing 130mph. Ever seen a caravan try and turn a car over?

All the best

yeah, I have got a zx6r, I was reffering to other bikes I've ridden. Unless I'm just crusing in top the zx has usually got enough grunt to accelerate fairly hard whatever gear.
If I'm not sure if a car's going to be coming after a corner I'll still sometimes stay back, then accelerate before I can see, then either brake or overtake depending on the oncoming traffic situation.

Well, I got 34 on the theory test...a bit disappointed...I got caught out by a road sign for a roundabout...thought that it was a mini-roundabout... ...

My final Uni exam (ever!...haha!...I hope...) is on 28th May, so I hope to get a bit of serious riding done after then, and then do my DAS!...but it's gonna cost a bomb in this season, no?

Fellow ninja owner like G and i agree about the overtaking thing. Im training at the moment for my ROSPA advanced test, mainly cos it should give an insurance discount, but also cos it might make me a better rider. When overtaking a large or high/wide vehicle then its best to drop back, as you can then see the road further ahead from either side of the vehicle depending on which way the road bends, and your road position. As for the overtake, well its best to plan so that you run up to the vehicle as you make the manouvere, as you can only apply full acceleration if the bike is completely upright. If you swerve out from close behind the vehicle then you cant apply hard acceleration until the bike is straight again, as you are momentarily pointing the bike towards the edge of the other side of the road, so it means you spend longer on the wrong side of the road.
Like G says the zx6 is very different to small bikes, in that its got plenty of grunt. On a typical A road i can stay in 5th and 6th and still pass cars quickly and safely, where as on a small bike you have to get past by any means that you can, and road craft is out the window!
