Hi there,

Anybody used AT or "Acciona Trasmediterránea" Ferries? They look quite good and their prices are even better but i wondered if anyone has had any experience with them?

If you are doing the Portsmouth - Bilbao route then they have a damn sight better boat than P&O Pride of Bilbao.
You are also likely to get a better class of fellow passenger than the P&O Booze Cruisers.

I work at Pompey ferry port & avoid the terminal at all costs when the P&O Billy comes in, the AT ferry arrives in the morning and the passengers are not usually pissed out of their skulls and laden with fags and booze.
But then again, you might like that sort of thing...

For top class travel to Spain though, catch the Brittany Ferries Plymouth - Santander boat (the drawback is the much higher prices involved).

I used them one way to Bilbao this year. Not bad all in all, although there weren't any bike specific bays or tie-down points on the deck, the bikes were roped to a railing. Would've come back to a snapped bellypan had I let the ferry worker tie it up himself so watch to make sure they do it correctly.

The beer was very cheap, meal prices a bit expensive but baguettes etc from the bars not bad. The night time entertainment was a bit ropey but you're not on there for the nightlife so who cares.

I spent most of my time sitting outside in the sun, reading and drinking beer - quite pleasant really.

Was that not the one (the Fortuny) that failed it's MCA Safety inspection on it's maiden voyage from Pompy and was kept in port for two or three days? Shocked Confused

Deffo going to portsmouth not plymouth, thanks for the info i didn't realise P&O was full of louts. I'll be looking to chill out as it'll be at the end of the trip. Plus the fact it arrives in the morning suits me as then can catch up with some mates in Pompey before heading for home Thumbs Up

Yep, that's the one, but you should see the state of the Pride of Bilbao!
Makes AT Ferries look like QM2.

Also, I don't think the Fortuny has run over any small yachts recently.

You're right about the Billy - a right state. Sad

She does get quite close to me occassionally on Harbour Patrol but that might just be me trying to count the rivets! Laughing
