It's pretty simply to remove the 33bhp kit from the RVF, but it's a very fiddly job...

  • Remove the two side mid panels
  • Remove the lower fairings and all the assorted rubbers / foam pads
  • Remove the seat, and unbolt the tank
  • Remove the two "air funnels" which lead into the tank
  • Lift the rear of the tank up somewhat, and turn the fuel tap to off
  • Pull off the big hose on the left (overflow)
  • Pull off the small hose on the left (vacum connector)
  • Pull off the small hose on the right (breather)
  • Now you should be free to lift the tank clear
  • Remove the airbox covers, nothing which way around the air tube to the secondary air filter is fitted
  • Pull out the air filter and unscrew the bottom airbox bolts to free it
  • Remove the whole dealie so that you're left with the carb bellmouths
  • Free the idle adjuster and choke cable from the left of the bike
  • This is the really fiddly bit: use a long crewdriver to loosen the clamps holding the carbs to the intake manifolds
  • Remove the fuel hoses from the carbs
  • Tug and pull to free them, they are quite stiff to pull out because of the V shape they're stuck into
  • Now you should be left with the intake manifolds visible, remove the restrictor plates
  • Re-assemble the whole lot

Et'voila! Twice the power... By far the hardest bit is getting access to the clamp screws on the intake rubbers - the rest is easy but drawn out, but good golly miss molly is it worth doing Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

The power is quite good, even when restricted to 33bhp you still have the torque so it's really only the top half of the rev range that isn't as psychotic as it's meant to be. 0 to 60 was around 5 seconds on my bike when it was 33bhp'd.

Speed? Well I had 120mph out of my 33bhp RVF, given a downhill stretch they'll go all the way to the top speed of 145mph.

Handling and braking is unaffected by the restriction so you can still outrun the lardy litre bikes without a problem.

Well the illegal bit is 'not being in proper control'... and I allways thought wheelies showed good throttle control Smile

Parts for the vfr are pretty plentiful and fairly cheap (mainly because they're 'real world' prices and not the manufacturer's figures). The rvf is a bit more difficult to find bits for but they're still fairly cheap. I scored a mint rear subframe for £60 - beat that Razz

There's a thread a while back discussing the kwak zxr versus the honda vee-fours, you should be able to find it using the search.

Luke,

I fink it's "M" Reg, it was on the Dobles website for a while in
it's origional black and red colours, the bike looked good but
the colour put me off! I thought the red wheels wus over the top.

They say it's a minter wiv 10,000kms on the clock, so will have
to have a good look when it's done. The good fing about buying
from a Honda main dealer is the Warantee!

Good Luck

If I remember he got it new pretty recently, they haven't changed the design much in a while.
There's not *that* much you can do to make 400s faster/lighter weight with out making significant compromises so they haven't changed/made new designs recently. (And the jap power laws were relaxed)

Yeh, but I did say 'to make 400s faster/lighter weight'... though admittadley Kawazaki has completley abandoned this kinda thinking in the 600s.

When are you getting it done btw?
