Just been get some insurance quote on bandits and seems very low for the size bike (notice a few other forum members have posted it) Im on the verge of getting one but im still in my 33 bhp restriction. I can find a kit for post 2000 bikes but not the early models. Im looking at a 1996.

Can anyone send me a link or know of were i can get 1? I guessing there some out there somewere?

Thanks

Bandit 6 is the same physical size. Seems a much better candidate and better on insurance.

If you get them both restricted to 33bhp then they will be virtually the same bike.

Dont think it'll do the engine any favours (in fact i'm sure).. a 600 is fine restricted.. theres nothing stoping you selling up after 2years is up and geting the 1200, not as if they are rare..

Gave birth to it? She probably turned up unannounced and stole it from Malawi Japan

I technically have another year of restriction unless i do an "accelerated access" test...

looking around for a bandit 1200, doubt it will be restricted...

The Bandit 12 is a better bike than the 600, it is slightly bigger physically and quite a bit heavier. But the build quality is there, doesn't rot after a year like the 600 and the engines are much stronger and more reliable, also has a proper swingarm. We run both on the fleet at work, wouldn't touch a Bandit600 ever.

Think you'll find the restriction will cause problems in the 1200 though, may make it run very strangeley, erratic power delivery and kill the plugs on a regular basis. If you did restrict it, it'd need setting up properly really, get the fueling altered at the least, possibly some jet alterations.

Hi

Suspect the kit for the later bikes would do the job. There are engine differences, but not sure they would be relevant (basically an exhaust gas recirculation system on the later ones).

Fair few differences between the 600 and the 1200 beyond the obvious. Larger wheels / tyres on the 1200. 4 pot calipers on the 1200, 2 pot sliding calipers on the 600. 1200 has a fuel gauge. Rear peg hangers on the 1200 are bolt on, on the 600 they are welded on. 1200 has twin horns.

All the best

Keith

i passed my test when i was 20, so you technically have 2 years of restriction, if however you turn 21 during that time i believe you can take a further test (most likely the same as the DAS) for it to be unrestricted without waiting...

you can make your own restriction kit as long as you have a mechanic check the bike over and supply you with the paper work, if you do a search i once explained how to make a restriction kit for a carb'ed bike which your bandit is. it only takes about 10 mins to make and fit the restrictions if you know what your doing and if you dont it wont take much longer any way its a pice of piss lol.

do a search and see what you find if u cant find it let me know and ill explain how to make restrictions.

Post 2000 the 600 peg hangers are bolted on too.

As has been said, why bother restricting a bandit 1200, you may aswell restrict a 600.

Hell of a lot cheaper. granted, the brakes are lesser, but you don't need super hulky brakes without the super hulky power, and lets face it, the bandit 600 brakes are plenty good enough.

And also has been said, I'm not sure how a 1200 would deal with the restriction.

Granted, get a 1200 if you're not going to restrict it, they're fun (bit much for a new rider maybe).

You don't need proof at all, it just has to be restricted.

a restrictor kit would totally ruin a 1200, there would be absolutley no point in having it, more weight and shite power would mean far worse handling then a restricted 6. i rode round on my bandit 6 for a whole year without a restrictor kit and never got questioned once.
