i recently came off my kawasaki gpz 500 s at 125mph(ouch) and walked away with hardly any injuries whatsoever, which where a badly bruised foot, both badly bruised knees, a badly bruised thumb and a bad scrape on my arm(could have been a lot worse). i was wearing good quality boots, leathers and helmet which took the brunt of the fall, it shattered one knee protector, shredded my leathers and boots and deeply scarred my helmet.

it wasnt a nice experience by any means but would urge anyone going on a motorbike to wear full safety gear at all times,

Glad to hear you are OK. How did it happen? What gear was you wearing, specifically?

Good for you. Rolling Eyes Personally I would prefer to urge people to continue to wear what the hell they want and not ride like a twat on the roads.

Yes preventing a fall is the easy way to not get hurt but sometimes it cannot be prevented. Safety gear is a real must on any bike in my opinion.

What's with the hostility? Most of us ride fast so we should wear the gear for it. Even if we aren't riding like 'twats' we should still be wearing decent gear anyway so it makes no difference.

I'd say wringing a GPZ500's neck long enough to manage to hit 125 on it is pretty avoidable if you ask me Neutral

I'm a twat too, but I don't dictate to others how they dress.

It must be time for 'Flip Flop Watch' again...

Come on Zaphod, you've been here long enough to know how often this same ol same ol argument comes up.

I haven't replied to one of the threads on this subject for ages, thought it was my "turn"............

....and my opinion is that I don't need "urging" to wear safety gear at all times, if I want to ride in a hot pink bikini with sequins I will (although that would be a little unfair to other road users considering the size of my arse).....

If the OP wants to post & tell us about his off, fine, if he wants to preach about always wearing gear, well frankly yaaaawn.

lol its up to you what you wear on your bike i just didnt realise how much bike gear protects you and it would definatley hurt coming off without gear on.

Doing that sort of pace along a road with a road surface bad enough to cause the bike to spit you off? Yes it is imho. Not knowing the road is no excuse either, if your going to switch your brain off and hustle at those speeds without knowing full well what's coming up then what gear your wearing is the absolute least of your worries.

I did kinda find out that 125mph is too fast for the road i was on the hard way. I will admit its probably lack of experience on my part and something that ive learned is not a good thing to do.

Fair play to you for learning from it then Thumbs Up Just don't forget that you was pretty damned lucky to walk away from an off at that sort of speed, no amount of gear is going to make you invincible sadly Wink

Oh i certainly know i was lucky. The road i did it on had trees at both sides of the road i know i probably wouldnt have walked away if id have hit one. I also did a "high side" which from what i understand is one of the worst things to happen.

You survived a 125mph highside on a road lined with tree's! Shocked

Fancy picking me 6 random numbers between 1 and 49 please?

Laughing

My GPZ would never do 125! had it up to 120 twice but it wont go past there.

lol i haven't put the lottery on since i did it but good tip, my gpz seemed to have a never ending top speed. It would struggle to gain speed quickly after 100mph but would keep going and going. with a big enough hill it may have hit a lot more if you dare. I haven't got a clue if it was stock or not as i was the 8th owner and only ever rode mine.

To be fair mine isn't exactly in good condition, it is gradualy dieing, regularly sitting flat out on the motorway probably doesnt help it to be honest, although im sure you will agree the engine seems to encourage you to rev it more and more Laughing

yes they seem to hate it at low revs. anything above 7k and they love it ive accidentialy revved mine to 13k a couple of times in second but the engines are like tanks. i have a spare engine that i was going to rebuild to get mine running spot on but with the fall im just going to repair it and sell it(knocked my confidence on a gpz). although i did love the bike up until then and at the moment cant get on with my honda cb1.

and if you look on wikipedia at the gpz500 they state the gearing would allow 140mph so in theory it would do that down a big enough hill lol.

Shocked Have fun trying that one! Just because its got the gearing for it doesnt mean the engine will A) like doing it. B) Survive trying!

Laughing
