If the main beam works, but not the side light?

Yes, just change the bulb.

You mean there is not one fitted as standard?....Or do you mean the bulb has blown?

Is there a sidelight setting on the switch?

If so - check the headlight bulb - it could be one with several filaments that does sidelight/dipped/main beam all in one unit. Maybe one filament has gone. Confused

Hey,

No you don't need a side light for your bike to pass its MOT.

My GPZ400R has passed the past 3 MOTS without a sidelight. The bulbs in the headlight, and theres a switch for a sidelight but it is not connected up. Nothing has ever been mentioned about it.

Cheers,
Shaun.

I was under the impression that anything that was on the bike had to be in full working order?

When i took it in all he did was check dipped and main beam. Its been to 3 seperate garages and all have passed it through. Last time it failed on worn brake pads and that was it.

That is and Isnt true. Its a strange one really. Think it goes by the MOT'ers final decision.

My old Mini Coop had a set of 4 Fog lamps on the front. It MOT'd without them wired up. They were just on there.

He passed me for that, Yet failed it because the side repeaters were not orange enough.

Yet on a Brand New Focus, they are Green! Confused

Explain that.

Front fog lamps are not tested on the mot. Laughing Fitted or not.
As for the focus, the indicators should flash amber even if they look a different colour. I'll find out in about 2 years when i get one in for mot. Laughing
