Always wondered this people say "Oh dont get one you have to have a new engine every 8k miles blah blah blah"

Anyway to my point i got mine 2 years ago with 3k on the clock , now it has 17k and the only problems ive ever had is the powervalve breaking.

I left it stood for like 7 months mostly through winter and when i came to do it up for summer i needed a new head gasket.

Thats all

So.......... Why does everyone slate this bike? Confused

I don't know why people slate them. I had an RS125 a few back and I loved it. They are great bikes but probably get ragged way too much by some owners and not enough care and maintenance given back to them. Then like all things Italian they play you up something rotten. Just as a note mine wasn't like that, I had little or no trouble with mine whatsoever. Very Happy

to me, they're just a geared moped. ie-
1-for chavs
2- whose parents would have bought them a moped
3- who more than likely are only using it until they can get a car

also i REALLY don't like the 2t noise. so having a chav rev the nuts off of it anywhere is lame.

People don't slate them, they're held in very high esteem by a lot of people. But like all 2 strokes they need a lot of love and care, and a 4 stroke is the sensible option for a lot of people.

So when you are young and riding around with only a CBT what would you rather have - something like the RS125 or something like a CG125. No contest in my eyes. Very Happy

Sure, if you are 16 / 17 then looks are everything and the RS would be at the top of most yound lads and ladettes wish list as would the Mito and GPR.

However, it only takes a little insight and sense to realise that a sports bike is not as practical and user friendly as something like the Yam SR or CG.

Yes they look like poo, but are much cheaper and bullet proof compared to the Itailans.

CG. I'd look a twat on an RS, they're tiny. At least if I'm on a CG, I'll look a twat but I won't care because it's only a CG.

Be that as it may, RS125's are synonymous with 17 year old chavs in trackies and trainers ragging the little lawnmower engine to death, in a vain attempt to impress their mates in their corsa/saxo etc....

That aside though, I do wish I'd had one on the road at 17 instead of some of the ancient shite boxes I rode Mr. Green

I think what pisses everybody off is when such a character comes on the board, and tells everybody it does 140, and keeps up with 600's Confused then go on about pulling wheelies whilst giving some cop the vee's or somethin...

You are right, they are not as practical and user friendly as other 125's. But who said that people always want practicality over nice looks? I had my RS125 for a year, it suited me fine, I did my DAS and moved onto an R6.

So I am still riding a sportsbike now which is not the most practical machine but it does exactly what I want it to. And no-one is going to argue that an R6 is inferior to something like 600 Hornet, one is built for pure performance, one is built for more practicality.

Its only the same as arguing about which is 'the best' 125. Its horses for courses. Very Happy

To true, it is horses for courses.

I like the look of a nice sports bike, I've had 2 in the last 12 months, but check out my lastest abomination, sorry bike Laughing

Major contradiction there. I'd argue all the way that an R6 is far inferior to a Hornet if I wanted to ride 300 miles in a day, or buy as a first bike. Just because a bike is good for different things it doesn't mean it's worse, and it's all about where your priorities are.

Vain 17 year olds buy RSs because they want to look good. It comes at the expense of reliability, RSs are notoriously unreliable and high maintenance. Which is why I'd choose the CG every time, because they're both 125s so they're not very fast, and looking good isn't worth spending hours sitting by the road and thousands of pounds. I can't believe it is to some people.

I had an RS125 as my first bike... I loved it for it's looks and it's speed (For a learner legal bike, of course). I hated it for having to warm it up, and the noise it made.

I'm no chav, and I would reccomend it to someone if it was just for the summer, as mine was.

Also, for those saying a CG is more practical... I'd rather have had my first 6 months riding experience in a tempermental, high revving bike like the RS which could handle well before jumping onto a sports 6, than pootling around on a slow, light bike like a CG which would give me next to no experience Exclamation

to be honest the rs's arent really 'that' small physically, in fact mine often gets mistaken by unknowing people as a much larger cc bike (until it starts up that is Laughing )
i had the option of getting a cg instead of the rs - but at the end of the day my bike is a toy, and i wanted it to be fun.
as far as im concerned it looks good, is fast enough for a 125, and i enjoy riding it. i would have got very bored of a cg very quickly..

when i said geared moped, i didn't mean that in the literal sense. what i mean is that chavs get their mindless parents to buy them the most "trick" ped/bike they can use. pay all the insurance et al for it. they'll use it (rag the nads off it) for a while, give serious riders a bad name, then stop using it in favour of a car.

no this isn't ment to be a dig at every rs/nsr owner.

yeah, i can see your point there. i had to look long and hard for one that hadnt been abused, but now ive got one i can say they are really rather good for a 'learner' like me Thumbs Up

Bit like the burbury thing i guess.

Burbury IS a very good make (the rs125 IS a good bike) , but is seen as 'chav' therefore its unfasionable, maybe even slated (like the rs)

I wouldn't say no to an RS125 Thumbs Up

I kinda like them. Never had one first time round (had an 82 CM125 as it was all I could afford), but they seem a little appealing to me now - especially the essential garage tinkering.

Yea, Valinteno Rossi, what a fucking chav he was in his early days of motogp racing.

I think there great bikes. If you look after them then they will give you alot of fun. And lets face it, changing a piston every 8k's isnt exactly hard is it. You dont even need to drop the engine, just a couple of hours is all it takes.

And I think there the perfect introduction to sports bike riding on the roads ( and on the track ) as there fast, yet not to fast to get you in alot of trouble ( most of the time.. )

The only reason I got an RS was because it looked good (who goes and buy a bike that doesn't look good? ... Exactly so everyone is a chav then?)

I also bought it because it is probably the quickest 125 around at the minute. It helps you get prepared for the power of a bigger bike in the future.

What did you all start out on 600's?

OR is it a hint of jealousy that you all ran about on shitheaps... and lets not go to the "I bought this bike because it was reliable unlike the RS"... the RS' reliability all depends on the owner regarding maintenance and whether they rag the fuck out of them or not. Thumbs Up
