Ducati Monster 600

Anyone know much about em?
Ive discovered that for about the same money as a VFR4 I can buy and insure(actually this is cheaper!) a monster.
I love the look of them , and with em being a V twin theyll sound great as well!
The only thing putting me off is the whole ducati reliablity problem. Is the M600 affected in the same way as the rest of the range?

If I remember they're quite lowly powered and I doubt the braking's that great as they've got a single front disc, had you considererd the SV650... for a similar price you get a better bike, but no ducati badge.

they are POO!!!!, there a v twin so they are slow as shit, there ducati so it will probably cost you a bloady fortune in regular services, if you wanna twin go for an sv its lighter cheaper to run and has much better brakes.
i spoke to a guy at box hill who got a monster he said the standard brakes are laughable he had to put braded hosses, brembo callipers and discs and hh sinted brake blocks just for the brakes to be half decent.

Hi

Friend bought one as a first bike (she is only short, and it was one of the few bikes should could stand a chance of touching the ground on).

Brakes are fine in normal use, but push it hard and they are going to be not great. I suspect it is fairly easy to fit the second disk (looks like the wheel and fork are already drilled ready for it). They have (or at least her one has) braided steel hoses as standard, along with Brembo calipers and master cylinders.

Servicing is a tad expensive as the cam belts need changing every couple of years, and the valves are not easy to adjust. But it is alot easier to get at things than on, say, a VFR400. Swings and roundabouts really

Ducati reliability should not be a problem, certainly not on the new ones.

Top speed isnt great (think it is around 110~115, but not sure) but they are a nuce bike to ride. Only the newest ones have rev counters.

New she paid £4000 for her Monster just over a year ago as an official import. Seen 2nd hand ones for around £2000.

Cheers for the info, i did know bout the single disk but there is a kit to fit the second disk, which I would probably do if it didnt have it already.

I have thought bout the SV, but Im not much for the look of the faired one and the unfaird is no where near as good looking as the monster.
And, the monster will out handle the Sv, apparently.

Still not sure. Will wait and see what comes up I suppose.
