Hi all, decided i would run by a choice i have been offered and want your opinions on it.

Firstly it's an FJ 1200 with three givi boxes on (two sides and a rear),new full stainless exhaust, two new tyres, near enough full service history, new battery and fork seals.Been extremely well maintained with regular oil changes and such forth....

It is my dads own pride and joy but he feels he has had his day at bikes now and is looking to buy another house in france and doesnt have the time to ride now at all Sad

Now i am converting a zx 10 to a streetfighter as my personal toy but dont really want to let anyone else have the FJ and always wanted another big bike for a tourer.

Two things put me off.Price and mileage.
He just wants back some of the money he has spent in the last year i.e the exhausts/battery/fork seals fitted etc etc.

The price to me is 900.00 which i still feel is a little on the top side for a H reg model.Especially with 57,000 miles on the clock Shocked

Any ideas? Good bike? Bad bike? Bargain? Ripped off by my own father?

The only plus pointers are that i know the history of it for the last 4 years/22,000 miles.

I'll have it off him for £700 for commuting.

If it had 20k on the clock, then it would be worth more. But with that mileage I wouldn't wanna get stuck in Switzerland!!!

Its unlikely to let you down as long as it is kept up servicing wise. Those engines are bullitt proof. To be honest the price sounds fair, but get him to throw in 12 months road tax just to haggle. If you just say yes he will think he has sold it too cheeply and probably remind you about it later.

Came acrossed a rearly good site the other day I think you should visit if you are thinking of getting an FJ...!

FJ FJR owners club, its full of helpful advice by FJ nuts, even got their own service guy, so give it a try.

basicaly its big fast and can tour all day with an all most bullet proof engine.

Good bikes. My Dad has had his from new. It hasn't turned a wheel for 5 years, but he won't sell it. It's been around Europe a few times and he did 1000 miles in 1 day on it. A well serviced one won't let you down. The styling still looks quite good I'd say. The only downside is the weight of the things. They are bloody heavy, but handle well for their size. The price is a little high for the mileage. Chip him to £850, especially if it's not the ABS model. Wink

At that price and given that it has been well looked after grab it they are a superb torquey bike and the motors regularly go to in excess of 175,000miles parts are still readily available and not especially dear.
Joining the owners club is a good plan Phil who is the guy that really runs it knows these bikes inside out and is good for advice his servicing costs are fair and he does a top job. I treated mine to a service there as I didn't have the time at that point and it was a treat to see someone who really knows and loves his bikes working on it.
Essentially what you are paying is about as low as the bike will go as it wont be long before they start to aquire classic status
