I did keep pretty quiet about it yea. The bloke was umm-ing and arrr-ing whether to sell it or not so i wasn't that sure i would get it..but he did in the end.

Uk bike, all the origional parts, 2512miles, Not a scratch on it. £3,700. I knew this bloke beforehand, i went to high school with his daughter and i used to see him outside carnells on a sunday. He was always big on R1 till he had a bad crash then went for somethin smaller..an SV. He's goin for a blade now which suites me fine to have his cast offs.

Insurance was £750 TPFT which i'm happy with

Oh yes, I forgot to ask - what's with the white numberplate? Is it a legal one 'cos I quite like it as opposed to the standard yellow.

Its an EU number plate, hence the circle of stars! We've had em in Ireland for years,Germans and French have them too and ive recently seen some GB's around aswell! Thought the Brits wud never part with their yellow reg's.

I didn't do a direct access i have a restricted A licence same as Korn.

I did some lessons at MSN, It's in the belview dogs track car park. There not that bad. I did my test in Hyde (Damn hard place to find too)

I dont know why but it's alot dearer for a DAS isn't it. I think it cost me about £150 all in all and the fellers i was doing my lessons with were paying £500ish for their lessons, bike hire and test.

My bike should be restricted and seeing as i went out on it yesterday and a trafic cop did a U turn and followed me for a while before i went though some back streets...(In about 4th gear to keep the noise down)

Does anyone know the penalty for being caught on a un-restricted bike with a restricted licence?

Not exactly, but you'll get knacked- technically your driving without a license for the machine and your not insured. Just don't get caught!!

Yes (no - I haven't been busted, I just did some research)

First of all, there's driving without a license which gets you a pretty steep fine and a ban (no points though). Then there's driving without insurance (becasue you'll have invalidated it) which gets you an even steeper fine and almost always a long ban - and insurers won't touch you with a barge pole in the future.

On the bright side, you should get your bike restricted so you have the certificate, then de-restrict it yourself. If stopped, the average copper isn't going to have a clue about the 33bhp law, as long as you can flash a full driving license at them and prove you own the bike they should be satisfied. If they give you a producer, turn up on a different bike or go by car/bus - and if they want to check out your bike they will have to give you a notice and arrange you bring it to a police testing station. Just shove the 33bhp back in and turn up (obviously removing the race can first Laughing). The only thing to fear is a side-of-the-road inspection or having your bike impounded. The side of the road stuff is very very very rare and is usually never detailed enough to bother checking the engine, more like checking all the brakes, exhaust emissions etc... This is done by the D.O.T but police also have the power to do this. If they impound your bike (only really likely if you run somebody over or do a robbery etc) it will go to a police workshop where, if they notice your license, they will check out the restrictors.

To sum it up - the restrictor certificate is 99.9999999% of the law. Get a kit fitted, keep the certificate, bin the restrictors. Ta Daa!

Cheers Korn. I think i will do that...It's worth the cost of a restrictor whether it get used or not.

How do you go about getting the certificate though. Does it come with the restrictor, Does the DVLA get involved?

the certificate will be given to you by the shop you get the bike restricted at.... then just go home take off the carbs get sploshed with a full tank of petrol (another story Very Happy ) remove the restrictors and rebuild.. and as korn put it taa daaaaaa! Smile

Kawasaki tried to stop people from de-restricting their ZXR 400's by making the fuel tap fly off the bike when you try and lift the tank up, dousing you with petrol and seriously putting the shit up your two mates who are both standing over the bike smoking cigarettes Razz

I acted on your advice korn and got one sorted
https://summyeng.members.easyspace.com/sv/restrictor_kit.jpg
There's £135 worth of metal, but i guess it's not what i paid for..It was the certificate, even though the reg and the VIN number are slightly different. I had a 3 where i should of had an 8 and i was missing a 1 from the VIN.

Did your insurer want proof of pretty much everything you told them Korn? I had to prove my no claims, photo copy my licence, my alpha dot details and the restrictor certificate..they wanted all this AFTER they had taken the money of course

My current (for KLR converted to ZX6R) insurance didn't ask for proof og any of my details.
I reckon when you make a claim they'd insist you provided every last detail and try and invalidate your insurance if you can't find any details. Assuming <touches large piece of wood> I don't make a claim I probably could have got away with saying I had a year or twos no claims.
