I'm looking at buying a new bike next year and really fancy a Kawasaki ZX7R. I just want to know peep's opinions on this bike (good or bad). I don't think a ZX7RR is an option tho.

I'm all ears!!!! Thumbs Up Wink

It depends on what your looking for.

For what it's worth, most B1 and B2 ZX6R's will be going for around £2500 next year due to the 0% finance and they will be 3 models old. You should get a low millage 04 plate for under £3k. It has the same sort of pace as the 7R with more modern and probably better condition suspension, brakes, engine etc.

Them 7r's sure are pretty though. Ask Killa, he's had his for a few months now.

Too heavy, underpowered, outdated. There, that's the usual dross out of the way.

Sure it would get owned on a track by modern 600's but on the road i'd go so far as to say the extra weight works in it's favour. Just the right amount of power so you can whack the throttle open without the front lifting, though it does go light. Handles well enough for most peoplea nd the suspension is fully adjustable. Brakes are ok but could be better. And most people agree thay look great.

The main bugbear is noisy engines. They do tend to rattle more than other inline 4's. But as someone says on the redmonkey forum. "7r's are like ducks. If it doesn't make a noise, it's broken"

I've been enjoying having a bike that i rarely see..... a lot of people look at it.

But apart from that i've had no problems with it, i have it in mind to keep up on the services, she has yet to surprise me yet Confused

But then how can i say that, i've done over 4500 without any problems at all and there's thousands of things that could go wrong with any bike.

The engine isn't the most refined but i think it's built well.
When the weather picks up, i'm buying some of those (i forget the name so..) little bars that go on the swing arm, to improve handling, it lowers the bikes front and jacks the rear up.

The handling is a bit sluggish, but not weak, as standard, but with minor tweaks, it'll be like a different bike.

TBH, i'd like a 6, someday i might get one, i might not, i don't do track days so any 6 or 750 doesn't make you look silly on the road.

Hope this helps, i'm not biased at all really, there are bikes i'd prefer for sure, but for the insurance cost and the looks alone its a wicked bike.

I've had the 7 for 4 months now, and covered almost 9000 miles

I love it

Yes it is heavy, pushing the bike outta the driveway in the morning etc is harder than most bikes.

Loads of smooth low down drive, pulls any gear wide open throttle at 4000rpm.

The airbox roar must be heard to be believed.

Turn in is a bit slow, but hey! Push harder!

The front end is amazing! So much confidence when you are right over

Cheap to insure as well! I was 22 when i got mine and i paid £420 TPFT in London

One thing to remember GET A GREEN ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

yea but the green ones handle better.
ive had mine for about 4 months now and done about 5k miles. Nothing has gone wrong with it except the brakes are a bit spongy. Its a nice easy bike to ride as long as your strong enough to wheel it about. its got enough power to have fun and the handleing is quite good.

Same here with the brakes - so i bought braided lines

I think it handles better than "quite good"

You can argue all you like but killa's right, black ones are best!
I've had mine for just under 2 years, it's a superb bike, especially to learn on. it'll keep with most on the road (smooth roads are better tho), and it is heavy as mentioned above. i know a nice y reg in black for sale if your intrested Wink I'm only selling mine because i found a new love for a 954 blade and i cant keep both!

I have had one but I thought it was quite tame. The ZXR750L is a better bike IMO, unless you can get a ZX7/9....! Twisted Evil Thumbs Up
