Hi,

Im in love (as stated in a previous post) with the NSR.

Im 19, 2 years NCB, Provisional

Currently riding a Sym Jet 100cc, its a bitch and handles like a shopping trolley, still tis nippy (65mph twist and go)

Anyway.... Im going to have myself an NSR, can you guys give me any advice with regards to buying them, anything to look out for, any particular year to favor.

Also according to my licence i can ride anything upto 33BHP, am i correct in thinking the unristricted NSR is 29BHP?

I gather from reading the sites that i should go for a UK production model as they dont have restriction in the CDI unit?

Anyway, thanks in advance for the advice.

Hi,

Think U got it wrong there, as you R on a provisional U can
only ride up to 125cc Max 12BHP. Ie: Fully restricted UK Bike.

If you pass your test you can derestrict the NSR to about 20BHP

UK Bikes R the best buy for 100's of reasons!

every mag i read about 125's they say you should stay away from second hand ones

this leaves me screwed, cos i cant afford a new one and dont think they are worth it anyway, but i cant afford the insurance on a 500, so im left with a moped, if a 125 will last i will get one

but is it true most second hand ones are ragged cos of learners riders, and they are bad news

how many miles do these 125's like the NSR RS and mito go before they die?

If you get a 4 stroke 125 instead, you will have better reliability, and better insurance premiums. I just bought one and the insurance was only £426 tpo (my cheapest car quote was £1200 tpo on a fiat seicento sx 1100cc!)

I've been told by my dad and people on this site that 2-strokes only last about 20k-25k miles before 'self-destructing' and needing a re-build.

4 strokes maybe, and if 2 strokes 125 only last 20k miles then im not gonna bother

problem with 4 strokes, is they arent as fast as teh stroker 125's, and there arent as many good ones

i would go for a honda varadero, but i cant afford 3.5k and they are like well new

any others? that arent complete lame arse, like teh XLR125 or something

i want at least 13 bhp

I got a second hand NSR125 (91, 14000km (I think)) for £900, which was a ripoff anyway. I haven't had any reliabilty problems. There should be plenty of low mileage 2 strokes around for reasnable prices.

As for 4 strokes you *will* get bored with them quite quickly.

Sorry Phil,

Ive decided to go for a brand new NSR, the 2002 one. For a couple of reasons, i managed to get the price down to £3000 with the part ex on my Scooter, and of course the sweet newness of the bike Smile

Im going to finalise the deal this week so hopefully ill get it within a few weeks, not sure how long the registration and stuff takes though.

For those that are interested i.e "Keen" im getting it from White Bros in Darlo.

The registration process is almost instantanious, but you need to have arranged insurance...once you hand over the insurance cover note, everything is just a formality...

don't forget that you've gotta run it in- the other guys on this site with NSR's seem to know alot about it, so maybe ask them.

I saw a new NSR in white bros when I was in on Saturday- red/blue/white one, is that the colour your getting? Nice bike.

I hope I can get mine on the road soon- its pissing me off waiting for the garage to give it back.

no problem m8,
but when you get it run it in properly.
make sure it is a full UK Bike before you part with any cash.
'Cause d'restricting an import is a nightmare.
anything your unsure of ask on this forum someone will help.
Did you do your CBT on a scoot or geared bike?
i would advise going to a training school and having a go on a geared bike if not, before you pick it up.
and finally welcome to the world of NSR, take it easy and enjoy.
wont be long before you are asking about de'restricting though Wink
