Hi there

i know i've not even passed my test yet, but seem to have caught some kinda bug which leaves me scouring the country for a bargain project bike!!!

Anyway, i happened across a gs550 which was missing its seat, looking at it it seems to have had 'the chop' changing the standard two seat arrangement into a one seat jobby.

As these are not standard, does anyone know where you get a cutdown seat for a gs550 from?

cheers

jo

Is everything still standard looking, no chopped/welded subframe etc?? if so it will be an L model. Suzuki models with the L suffix are "custom" style variants and usually have a stepped seat.

If it is a butchered subframe you'd have to go to a custom seat builder to get a seat pan made and upholstered

...hi there

frame looks pretty chopped, the bike includes the pre-chop seat.....which no longer fits!!!

Any recommendation for seat builders? How much would it cost?

cheers

Could cost you a fair bit if you had a custom builder do the lot, you'd have to take the bike to them to measure up and fabricate the base etc, a simple job would probably be around £200 upwards. Be a lot cheaper to make the base yourself then you could use any seat maker or upholsterer to just cut the foam and cover it. Depends what you're going to do with it and how much you want to spend on it, a GS550 doesn't really rate high in the desireability stakes.

I paid £20 for my last seat. Made the base myself and gave it to a place that upholstered pub furniture. Had it back the next day and it looked ok.
