My nextdoor neighbour has one of them in blue. Its not as fast as my dragster Laughing nah, I think mopeds are fine for 16 year olds, and commuting in the winter when u dont want to drop that shiny new r1 or something Smile

I bet none of you are interested, but to see pics of peds like mine go to https://www.italjetdragster.com

It is by far the best looking scooter ever, dont flame me for being another stupid moped rider, as I have just ordered myself a proper bike, but these peds look so cool I want a 180cc version when I passed my test (as well as a bike of course)

thats an Aprilia SR isn't it goose? TWO magazine had an SR125 on long-term test and they reckoned it was the best handling scooter you can buy!

Hmm, dragsters have hub-centre steering, and quite sporty suspension (very stiff!) it corners better than my m8s sr50 anyway. Although I did read somewhere that the sr125 was a good one for handling

does the dragster have the same engine as the gilera runner? I think I read that somewhere- the 180cc runner (2-stroke version) has a 0-60 time around 7 secs doesn't it? bloody fast for a scooter.

yeah they share quite a few parts. The new gilera runner 200cc engine wont be used though, as its 4 stroke and slower than the 180cc 2 stroke.

Runners are much more common than dragsters, so people with dragsters always had to fit an exhaust designed around the runner if they wanted more power. (which doesnt go with the dragsters lines properly)

Now there is a new pipe for dragsters, by Blueflame I think, looks smart, meant to give decent amounts of power to the 180cc version

i may have to go for an sr125, cos the costs of 125's and the insurance for bigger bikes at 17 or 18 years old are a joke

but i just dont want a car, i cant stand them

I dont think it would be worth getting a 125 scoot. If you want to get into bikes in the future, it would be harder making the transition from a scoot to a geared bike. If you dont really mind how you look, get a cheap chinese commuter or a cg125. If u still want to look cool get a 125 cruiser style bike, or a trailie. All would be good starter bikes, with insurance premiums half of what you pay on a sports 125

yeah but unfortunately i am very vain, and looking good is quite high importance which i why i got the scoot i did, cos i just couldnt stand the others

the trail bikes are the only ones i would consider, but the top end on them is like 70 flat out, is that enough? would i be able to keep up with ride outs with that? can you carry a pillion, or us teh suspension too soft?

whatever i get next it has to last me, and i would like to be able to use motorways if possible, im plannin on uni in 2003 and im gonna be skint through that time, so i gotta get something that i can insure cheaply each year, and maintain cheaply (ish)

My Scoot is a 100cc Sym Jet, does 55mph easy and will do upto 65mph on flat if im lucky. Its restricted still, reakon i could get 70-75 out of it, but the thing feels unstable.

It's not possible to look good on a scoot, unless 'Rossi" or 'Fogarty' is in your name somewhere.

I have to agree 125 scooters are the sensible option- I went through a phase where I was gonna get one cos they were so cheap to insure and run. I also think some of them look better than people give them credit for- like the SR125 and the runner. But in the end you'd be stupid not to get a geared bike if you could afford it- much more fun.

I agree 100%.

When i got my Scooter it was because it was cheap, infact i was a bit stupid because i didnt look around to see what else was available, didnt even think of a geared bike.

CGs are cheap to insure and run (and buy), they should easily enough outperform most scooters (slighltly lower speed than some 2 stroke 125cc+ scotters possibly, but otherwise better).
If you're really bothered by looks and think that scooters look good, fair enough, other wise go for a 'proper' bike.

A CG is cheap to own, insure and run, but its slow and staid. Yet you can have fun on a CG they handle ok for the low power level, and with mad thrashing you can beat the ques of cars up to about 30mph, unless they trying, or have a reasonable performance car. Brakes arnt good on a CG as in for stunting etc, but do the job just. You will never top 60-65mph but at least its a bike, and it is just about capable of putting a smile on your face if you find the right roads. I found most fun with mine was small country roads, with blind corners and a gravely surface, then better still! Like it or not though an Aprilia SR125 will leave the CG dead in the water, i had about 72mph out of one, and up to 60 its nippy, as in car beating no problem. It aint a real bike, and i dont even like the handling of scoots that much, but id still take one over a CG no question. Im probably spoilt now by being able to keep drier in winter, and carry stuff more easily on my scoot, but they are the best tool for inner city traffic spliting, even though they have disadvantages. Actually a Supermoto bike is probably even quicker through town, but so impractical and probably too much fun, as in your bound to be hoisting a minger at every oppertunity, and stopping from 40 with the back 4 foot in the air, so sooner or later the feds would have you. As for trail 125's well i have always liked them, probably more so than any of the sporty 125's as they offer fun both on and off the tarmac, and they are quick enough for open roads 75-85mph. I reckon that most modern sports 125's are overpriced, and have more handling ability than they need for the power of their motors. Im thinking of getting an old 125 later this summer for a project, and i either fancy a trail/supermoto or an old roadster like an MBX, AR, or RG.

Quite surpirsed im still alive thinking back.

yeah i really do want a geared bike, i want a geared 125 more than anything so i can get used to the gears without having dangerous power at my finger tips,

but its all a matter of money, and that narrows the options, the only 125 scoot i would consider would be a runner or sr, and the only 125 bikes i could afford would be the KMX, the DT, the planet maybe, and the varadero, all of which i could insure, but the planet and varadero are expensive and recent so the bike may just be out of reach

i was considering a CG, but the looks suck, and the crappy brakes, and the build quality is apparently gettin worse as the newer models appear so.......i cant really decide properly until i get a sum of money together, and its closer the time

first priority is pass the test, but im always thinking about bikes, cos im hooked, and dont really wanna think about much else, and with stories of wicked days out riding, i wanna be a part of that as soon as possible
