Hi, unfortunately my first post is a bit of a pisser. Only been riding for 6 weeks, had bike for 3...

I was in inside lane preparing to turn left. Car in outside lane cut in front when I was level with him. I went over and slid for a few feet; jacket, gloves, helmet did a job for me. Bike (cbr125) is a bit of a wreck though; engine won't start, jammed in gear, inds. fairings, h/bars, mirrors etc. I got away with a scraped knee and swollen finger but am gutted about bike. I intend to get bike repaired, anything i need to get checked with mechanics/electrics in particular?

Does anyone know if this bike has emergency cut-off and if so how to reset?

Any comments appreciated and take care on the roads...

Sorry to hear about that - Did you get the cars insurance details? From your basic description it sounds like they were at fault so you should simply claim on their insurance. You will then get the bike professionally checked over and repaired or the money to buy a new one. You can probably also get some money for a new helmet and gear.

Cheers

Bikes can be repaired (it's only metal and plastic afterall), you can't be quite so easily. Glad you walked away relatively OK.

It'll surely be an insurance job (with a third party involved).
The bike will be fully repaired and checked out anyway, if the other party is deemed to be at fault.

Cheers guys.

It could have been worse. Thankfully it was a CBR125 so excessive speed was never going to be an issue...

As I'm just getting started I don't want this to put me off, as up until accident, yesterday was the most enjoyable I'd had on bike. It's a reminder tho' of how insignificant we are to car drivers.

Happy New Year.

G.

At least you arr here to tell the story. Did you get the car registration and are you doing this through your insurance? Fairings replacements are expensive so to pay out of your own pocket will sting.

So the car driver pulled across on top of you and hit the bike knocking you off?

Did he stop? If he didn't, you need to report the accident to the police, you will need a crime number for any insurance claims and the car driver has comitted an offence in failing to stop and report.

If he did stop, just get in touch with your insurance company and tell them you want to make a claim off the other drivers insurance. Most policies have legal cover these days which means they should sort everything out.

If the bike is jammed in gear then it won't start - simple. It either needs to be in neutral or you need to pull the clutch in. If the clutch is pulled in and it still won't start then it's possible that the interlock is broken i.e the wiring is damaged or the microswitch on the clutch lever assembly is broken.

As far as the emergency cut off goes CBR125's dont have a kill switch so as far as im aware its key only, if it wont start etc then its more than likely to be a fault of the accident unless you have an alarm/immobiliser?

Thanks again for replies.

Contacted insurance and verbally gave details of accident. I now have to write with details, diagrams etc. The fact police were called should hopefully speed things up. Bike was picked up next day and replacement hire was dropped off (Van Van). Bike is going to be assessed, presumably by other party's insurer.

If they don't admit liability, I have legal cover as standard. I'd appreciate input from anyone who has encountered a similar situation and how it turned out.

Also a big thank you to BCF member Kara for her offer to help sort me out with some fairings. Hopefully everything will be done comp, but her thoughtfulness deserves a mention.

Regards,

Graeme.

All is good. You have a hire bike which is costing the insurance company money hand over fist. They will sort it out quickly.

Hopefully that'll be the case, it's TPFT with Honda Ins & in response to your earlier post other driver stopped, waited with me for a bit after cops left, pretty decent of him.

Cheers,

G
