A KTM EXC 250 and the frame and V5 of a KTM EXC 125, I could stick the 125 registration plate on the 250. They look identical. Now, this works in my head but are there any suprises? apart from the frame numbers not matching. Would it require frame numbers for an MOT?? thanks for any info.

Yes, when you bollox it up big time your insurance company will investigate and discover your little trick and you will be liable for the three million pounds worth of damages caused not them, This will result in you going to jail, your wife going on the game and your kids going into care.
Is it worth saving those few shillings?

i was thinking of doing this with getting a silver rs250 that looked very similar to my rs125, rather than passing my full bike test

however, i have a recent mot refusal cert to hand, and the vehicle chassis number is on there, and they have my v5 to check it against

if you were moting a 250, you would need to put the 250 reg plate back on

then once the mot is done you could switch the plates back

so you wouldnt be able to get a tax disc, as your insurance docs wdnt match the mot

so if you ride a 250 as a 125, you can switch the regs but you wont be able to get tax disc even if you get insurance as a 125 and mot as a 250. if you came to make a claim your insurance probably would cover you but im not sure about that

yes you could.
where did the 250 come from?
has it got a v5?
is it a frame from who knows ware?
best you can hope for is that it never gets noticed and you never get stopped by the feds.
you then get into the whole driving without a licence, insurance ,tax or mot.these could end up with your bike in the crusher and you in the big house.fraud is a nice criminal record to live with if you ever want a job.
can you do it? yes
would you get away with it? probably.
should you do it? NO!
have you done it already?

I'm just a lazy cunt who would rather do his CBT every 2 years than suffer the trauma of doing lessons and a test. I already did it for my car and can't be assed doing it again on a bike Laughing

@Colin thanks for pointing out the tax thing, wouldn't have thought of that. Would they really check that thoroughly at the post office though?

any more opinions / flames?

Are the frames the same? You could get away with a 250 engine in a 125 frame if they are but sticking the reg from one bike onto another is pushing it.

id thought of this too but my idea involved using the 125 side casings so I could keep the frame/engine numbers matching Smile

IIRC you can fit DT200 top ends to DT125 bottom ends for example... Very Happy

Ive already attempted my test. cost me over £650 and failed. Id already used 2 months rent money to attempt the test so Id left myself in such a shit situation that I couldnt afford to take another test. Im gonna just do the A2 test now (restricted to 33bhp) and use my own bike for it. Should cost me around about £100 (test is £50ish). Then i'll get a 250/350 and that will keep me happy for the 2 year period Very Happy All I want to be honest is a bike that can wheelie off the throttle!

So let us get this right.
You intend to effectively ride without a licence or insurance.
You have failed to impress the examiner that you have the ability to ride a motorcycle to the standard required for a licence but you yourself consider your ability high enough to be able to stunt on the streets.
You post here and want our approval for your actions(I suppose then you will feel justified and exonerated of responsibility).
Why not list the reasons why the biased examiner unfairly failed you on your test?

I believe a KTM 125 EXC isn't even legal to use on a restricted licence, never mind on a CBT, so would be asking for troulble a bit.

MOT's would be a problem as they do check frame numbers.

Have you checked the service intervals? The EXC range are proper enduro bikes with, I expect, proper enduro servicing intervals.
Not sure about them, but my 4 stroke (so probably worse for maintenance) enduro bike is ten hours for 'moderate' off road use, or 3 hours/150 miles for road supermoto use.

I believe the KTM EXC 200 shares the bottom end with the 125.

Ariel: Realistically he's pretty unlikely to go to prison. He is likely to get a big ban and fine if caught, as well as the insurance company trying to chase him for money he probably hasn't got - which isn't a massive issue for an individual these days.

Basically, I'd just do your test, the solutions you're looking at will take a lot more effort and be far from 'lazy solutions'.

I would put a bigger engine into a bike, but I wouldn't just change a number plate over. It's too obvious due to the frame number easily being checked against what comes up on the PNC for that plate.

And if I was changing engine I would make an effort at using the parts with the old engine number on, or maybe removing the new numbers.
