hi my bike is a gilera stalker its a 50cc air cooled engine.

it snapped a belt a few weeks back , so i put a new belt on and started to drive it around again. but ever since ive changed the belt its been running really bad ! when u start off its like it was before the belt change (really fast for 50) that is untill you come off the revs, when you come off the revs its really relluctant to rev again which results in it being reallly sluggish , it does get to top speed again but it takes forever !
any suggestions welcome !!
cheers
tom

Only guess, not being too au fait with scooters, is that the variator is sticking or is damaged somehow, meaning you're getting bogged down in high gear. Whether this was pre-existing (maybe caused the snap?), an effect of the break, or completely independent, well...

That or it's the wrong belt, causing a similar effect.

Why it doesn't happen from rest, dunno, may be that coming to a halt puts enough pressure on the system to force the pulleys back into low gear, but only slowing a little doesn't push them hard enough to overcome whatever's in the way.

Only a guess, mind.

Again, this thread is from the 11th of October 2010. If the OP hasnt got the problem sorted by now im sure he will have made a new thread or kept this one alive rather then waiting nearly a year for a reply.
