why do they call it that?

ive got a cold. i know its "just a cold", but ive been sick as a dog since boxing day. my sinuses are completely blocked, my head is pounding, so much i cant think straight, and my balance is off.

my throat feels like im trying to swallow a broken bottle every time i try to swallow, i cant eat more than a slice of toast or a bowl of cerial without getting stomach cramps and feeling sick. cant breathe through my nose, my eyes are itchy and streaming, i cant sleep for more than an hour at a time, and despite two showers a day, i proper stink.

all this despite all the hot toddies, oranges, bowls of steaming vicks and lemsip max i can stand.

a cold? yer right. aww they say, he's got man flu, and then laugh. Rolling Eyes its not real flu but i am really ill, so F***'em. And bollox to 'em. I'd like to see them spend an hour in my shoes right now Evil or Very Mad

/rant over.

MAN FLU: A lame description for cold/flu like symptoms of a male.

From middle wumin. (Coz they think menstruating and having/bringing up babies is somehow tougher than being choked up with a bad head cold.)

Gavin. Im in the same boat as you.

me mother moaned at me because I rang in sick today at work. But as soon as I get cold, I get the shivers, and go light headed, Off ballance, Swallowing is soar, Pouniding head etc. And working out in a workshop mid winter is bad enough without being Ill.

I think theres a bit of a "Bug" on the run at the moment. I know a few people who are really feeling shit.

I just hope im better for tomorrow night as its party time! Laughing

Ive had nothing to eat today, im starving, but as soon as the thaught of food crosses my mind I feel physically sick! Shocked

One of the nurses at work told me of a study he had read about. Basically man-flu exists, there was some big study and they found out that because men are unable to multi-task like women, there is some kind of gene that women have that men dont that means there immune system is alot better.

Just something i was told

I think its a bit mean that when men have a cold it's labelled man-flu. Colds can be horrible, think its just that SOME women get on with things. Not all of them though, when i'm ill i snooze like a baby til i'm better Smile Hope you feel better soon Gavin Sad

Or it could be that some men moan a lot Razz So how about women who can't multi-task - like me Smile - can i get man-flu too? Wink Don't we all like a bit of fuss and compassion when we feel shitty?

I know what you mean gavin, few years back my mum got the flu so bad she could move out of bed for over a week and she is was in pain etc etc (i do love my mum to bits incase you get diff impression). I then catch this flu of her but needing the money i go to work. the following day is a fishing trip ive been waiting for for ages, im sick in the morning and go, i end up sleeping through the whole thing and just not wanting to move, i then spend the next 2 days in bed suffering.

Now i never get hit as hard or as long with these things, just seems to be me but when my mum was suffering she got all the sympathy in the world, when i had exactly the same thing the week later i was over exaggerating, and being a wimp. And i still got up and went to work feeling at deaths door. To this day because of that flu my dad said he can never tell if anything is wrong with me because i usually say nothing (which is true, i always let me illnesses go by the selves, perhaps not always a good idea but hey) or i over react and act like im at deaths door.

Was once god dammit and i still got up

Rant Over ...

im not after sympathy, just some courtesy (whoo whoo) i work through colds all the time, and i dont take the mick out of anyone when they are ill, but if you are really rough, go home, i dont want you anywhere near me, thanks. what pisses me off is people treating it as something minor when it isnt. im being sick in my own time, i dont go back to work till monday, so why make out its not as bad as it is, i dont get it. Confused Rolling Eyes

According to the The Independent's 20 Great Ways to Wellbeing

"EAT MORE CURRY

Long underrated as a health food, curry is now being linked to a number of positive effects - largely thanks to the curcumin in turmeric - including improved insulin levels and protection from heart disease, Alzheimer's, cognitive decline, stress and depression. Curries can also help you lose weight. It's thought that meals containing chillies burn up more calories than other meals."

There's nothing nicer than a really hot spicy meal that you can actually taste when you have a bad cold that makes you sweat and your nose run.
