cg. probably not as good as the sr in most things; especially braking the engines are fairly similar though the sr may have a couple more mph.

Mostly because I don't like the cruiser-esq styling and seating position of the sr. CGs can be picked up for next-to-nothing and dont cost much to run either.

SR = Starts (electric start), Goes (slowly), Stops (quite well)
CG = Starts (kickstarter), Goes (faster than the sr), Good luck trying to stop it (the brakes, are not)

I would go for the cg- I had a couple of my lessons on an old SR and I hated it, the riding position was horrible and it didn't handle as well as the suzuki gs125 that I had the rest of my lessons on. Your sat straight up and the bars are really high so you don't feel like you have any leverage to turn. My instructor always said I was worse on that bike so he always gave me the gs.

Have you considered a Suzuki GS125? I quite liked the one I learn't on- just like a cg but (IMO) it looks a bit better and its got an electric start.

I'd go for the SR. it's what i took my test on and seemed ok for a 125. it's got a disc on the front which greatly increses the braking. if it was out of 4stroke 125's then i'd go for the cityfly. better engine than both and disc brakes. also more moders and looks better. can get a recent second hand one from a dealer for about 2k elsewhere from prob about £1.5k

Maybe I'm biased cos the SR I had a go on was very old and very knackered (half the switchgear was dodgy). But I still don't like the looks.

The cityfly is nice looking- I saw one in a local bike shop for £1295, perfect condition and low milage (thats in the north though- prices maybe higher in london). I think its TWO magazine that says its a 'CG with added attitude'.

thanks for your replys!
I'm probably going to go for the CG as the SR's seat height is a bit too low. Also because of the price. I've got about 700 to spend!
Is there any way of changing the kick-start to a electric start on the CG?? If so, how much would this cost?

There might be a really wouldn't bother... it's really easy to start.

You could consider a NS/RG/TZ (all late eighties two stroke models)... the insurance is cheaper than the NSR/RS/etc and you can probably pick them up for arounf £700 if you shop around a bit.
