Hi people,

I know "What bike should I get???" threads are a bit tedious but I would appreciate some advice from the great and wise on BCF.

Ive had a Kawk ER5 for over a year now and am looking to move on to better and faster things in the next few months.

I commute about 15 miles a day around Central London which works out at about 2-3 thousand miles a year. I was thinking of getting a cheapish high milage VFR750 or ZZR600 and keeping it for a year or two.

My main problem is not about which bike to get but to how to go about doing it, bike prices seem to be so seasonal that it would seem like a good idea to get the new bike now and put the old one in the garage for 6 months and sell it in the summer. Do a lot of people do this when buying a new bike?

Looking on Ebay and Loot now I would be lucky to get a grand for my bike, even though its an '03 plate with 7k on the clock. The list price (Parkers) is £1800 for private sale and £1690 for part exchange. The private sale seems a but unrealistic but would a large dealership give that much all year round?

So, in short my questions are:

1) My bike choice, are they pants at weaving in and out of traffic?

and

2) Should I buy the new bike now and sell the old bike later or sell and buy in the spring/summer?

Thanks for any advice!

Vince

If you are buying a brand new bike, then you're not gonna get any bargains at anytime of the year.

As for sticking it in the garage, that's never gonna be a good idea in my opinion.

The ER5 is a commuter bike and will most probably sell all year round. (Lets face it, its not a track GSXR!)

Good luck with it.

If you have the garage space, and cash to cover the additional insurance/tax for the additional ownership period, then I'd go for buying the bike you want now and waiting to sell the other. I'd not wait 6 months though, maybe wait until after Easter then sell.

Bear in mind that having 2 bikes in the garage is a great way to start "the collection" Smile

I wouldn't recomed the VFR750FM because the fairing is flimsy and quite easy to break. Engine and everything else is fine though.
