Ahoy fellow BCFers.

I got an Arai Astro J for Xmas and was wondering if anyone had any info or comments on this helmet?

I personally have only heard of the Astro R

Cheaper version of the R. Have a look at the Arai main site for details.

The J version is supposedly the more road biased version and the R is the race spec model, hence the race replica paint versions that are available.

On a seperate note, do new Arai's still come with an ACU gold sticker?

I bought one from Here recently and it doesn't have one. It's ECE 2205 but no ACU sticker, for the price saving I'm not overly bothered because I don't do tracks. It's probably another euro import like my last RX-7. The service was good and couldn't beat the price.

I've got an Astro J, had it a couple years now. Only problem I've had with it is the black trim piece under the chin flew off somewhere in Spain last year, looked like the adhesive that held it on melted in the heat. Otherwise a top lid.

I don't think it's sold new anymore, was replaced by the later Astro's iirc?

Probably will do, but I haven't got around to it as I no longer have a spare lid and can't afford to be waiting around while mine get's sent to Arai.

I've got one in black, don't like it much. I find the visor has no ratchet so its either open fully or closed.
It chips very easy too, its not neglected but its looking used and due for a change. If only my Shoei Raid had a double 'D' fastner Sad

i tried an astro j on the nec test rides, and it is almost as good as the astro r, but not quite

id prefer to get a second hand astro r, (in fact i did) but i know a lot of people are funny about second hand helmets.

I've got an Astro J and I think it is a great lid. Mind you, I have tried on all the other major makes and I think I must have an Arai shaped head because all the others didn't fit properly.

The visor release system takes some getting used to but once you have got the hang of it you can change visors in seconds!

I tried on a RX7 Corsair (£499) and hardly felt any different. Certainly not double the price different anyway!
