Well my wife is pregnant!(and yes it is mine)

Now my thoughts so far is that my wife has told her work and they are fine with it, my Question is when is the best time to tell my work?

There are bound to be more questions so keep looking and help if you can.

Many thanks.

The wife is expected by law to notify the employers that she is pregnant and will be expecting on xx date and will be taking maternity leave on xx date, before or on the 26th week.

If you want the 2 weeks paternity leave then I believe its something similar.

Its been a while (well 3 years) since we had to do it Laughing

If you're intending to take paternity leave, you should tell them as soon as possible. Assuming your wife is past the first trimester (assuming this, as most women I know have waited until then to make the announcement), this will take your paternity leave to the summer months, so it could interfere with the holiday rota. I'm sure your bosses & HR would appreciate early notice.

Some of your colleagues may have had children themselves (or their wives have), and may be in a position to offer you any relevant advice and support, but only of course, if they are aware of it.

Hope it all goes well for you!

Congrats!!!

My mate waited until 3 days before the baby was born!!!

Then it was only cos we overeard him on the phone. Him and another guy at work where having a competition on who could wait the longest to tell people!

He still had no problems with taking tmie off for paternity, but our manager was in the US and a bit of a f**ktard, so i wouldn't recommend you try this!

How far gone is your missus?

Well thank you all, she is 12 weeks so far and we have the first scan on wednesday.

Im not really bothered what sex the baby is as long as it's health, i think my wife would like to know though, either way it will be shown the way of the biking gods from an early age Thumbs Up Wink

The reason i asked really is that in all the books she has bought they all tell her what to do and when but has no info for me, the other thing is that we have heard that the laws on paternity leave are changing in April.

Maternity leave and pay is changing again in April as you have already said. If you have any questions just ask the Health Visitor, for what little use they really are, they should know the law Wink

paternity leave is going up to 4 weeks. Also you can split the mrs 12month maternity leave between yourselves if you want to. Not sure , but was brought up at work by one of the nurses who was gonna be a dad a couple of weeks later.

(From the government website)

How to tell your employer you want to take paternity leave
To qualify for leave, you must tell your employer in writing at least 15 weeks before the beginning of the week when the baby’s due:

    when the baby is due
whether you want one or two weeks’ leave
when you want the leave to start

A simple way to give notice is to fill in a ‘self-certificate’. You can download Form SC3 ‘Becoming a parent’, which works as a self-certificate.

You can change the date that the leave starts, as long as you give 28 days’ notice.

Then get your own book LIKE THIS ONE

That said I've read this one, and if you want good solid advice, I'd go for something else. Still it's worth a read for some advice and a bit of a chuckle. It's quite FHM'ish in it's style!
