(Warning: Slightly boring topic!)

Havent got myself any boots yet as Im sort of a newbie, I did come off once, my trousers saved my knee nothing happend to feet, thankfully I was wearing my protectivy trousers. Is it necessary to have boots even on a 125 (stupid question)? Anyways I looked at some boots...

Sportsboots: will look like a retard on a cg125

The other biking boots (the plain black ones, with the reinforced toe bit smiling at you): Look very retarted and dont want to be walking round campus in them.

Got the 9'' ones with the air bubble and are as comfy as anything at work and dont look too bad on the bike too.

All good stuff, and I do ride in Dm's and Cats from time to time in the summer, but don't expect them to offer any decent protection in a serious off. The big difference with proper bike boots is the crush testing on the sole, and you only need to squeeze a pair of Dm's to see that they wouldn't hold up under weight.......... Bloody comfy though. Very Happy

I personally would recommend the swift ones, they were personally crash tested by me and the paramedics said my foot would have been a mess if if were not for them. I bought the same ones again and they're so comfy

But its up to you mate and if you don't want proper bike boots there are boots just like doc martins but have the protection of proper bike boots, for example dainese do some i think.

I swear by British army issue combat or assult boots. Unlike DMs and suchlike, they are made out of really heavy duty leather, a double layer with reinforced (but not steel) toecaps and heels.

They are very tough and should offer as good a protection as you will possibly get short of rigid armour. They have the added bonus of being totally waterproof if you keep them well waxed.

I had an 'incident' earlier this year which resulted in the back brake torque arm (a 2 foot long piece of steel flatbar) coming off my bike at about 60-70mph and whipping round with the back wheel. It sliced the bottom clean off the footpeg hanger and hit my foot. If i hadn't been wearing my combat boots, i would be missing the big toe on my right foot.
Here's the damage it did to the boot, inner layer of leather still intact! (just)
