Well my mum recently volunteered me to do a nusery cage run two days a week and being paid a tenner each trip.

The little 'un i took this morning is my mum's friend's little girl, now, she's two and a half years old and very reserved and shy.

So i get to their house and whilst the house maid goes and retreives her keys and phone etc the little girl stares me out, like properly Shocked "who the f**k are you?!" kind of face.

So i squatted down to her level with a big smile on my face and said "Hi Maya" and gave a little wave at which point, she promptly burst into tears and ran inside to her maid Laughing

I've been told i'm great with younger people from sort of 5 onwards (I.E when they're capable of making descisions and stringing together full sentences) so what on EARTH do i do with this one to befriend her and put a smile on her face.

I don't want to be the one taking the kid to nursery who's utterly miserable!

Any help?!

Chris

Of course you don't. Firstly, do not take a 2.5 year old's behaviour personally (they can be SO flippent!).

Persavere, kids like routine and you are not the usual routine. Give it a bit of time. Keep calm, confident and smiley.

If your still having a problems, then ask the girls Mum (your Mum) for tips.

Cheers MonkeyPie, spoke to my mum and she said let her come to you and talk to you first not the other way around.

Problem with that is, seems a bit anti social Laughing

Kids like routine you say? Then i'm f**ked, it's going to be fairly random but there WILL be two days a week that i'm taking her to nursery.

My sister used to do runs all the time. She took 6 children to nursery/school at one time. Nice big people carrier.
Some kids would talk non stop, play ect while the rest were shy.
My sis would just talk to them, non stop sometimes and it made them come out of there shell.
Takes time, Kids are kids but never take it personally Laughing

Sweets are ok. But ask first, also on another note - Do you really want a bunch of hyperactive kids in the back Wink

Don't worry about the kids in the back, just keep your bloody attention on the road lad!!
Don't give them sweets either, you'll teach them bad habbits.

Cheers Dave and Louise, it's only one kid actually so i guess i'll stick to soft cuddly toy method...might be cheaper in the long run Razz

And Dave, i ALWAYS keep my attention on the road, but it is amusing to have a quick glance in the rear view mirror and see these big googly eyes staring back at you Laughing

Pull up in your car, lean across and pop her door open. Wave a little teddy at her, and say "Hello little girl, would you like a sweetie?"
As the runs into the car, pull the teddy back so its out of reach, and close her door. Lock the doors from your side.
Give the infant the teddy and a sweetie, and drive to somewhere secluded, such as some woods.
I'll leave the rest up to you.

Well, it's fairly obvious where your custom title comes from then Robby Laughing

Picked her up again this morning and er...yeh.

Got out the car, house maid holding her hand i was boardshorts and a shirt and i got out the car to go and open the door.

Didn't make any eye contact whatsoever, and she burst into tears for five seconds again before getting in the car silent as the grave Thinking

Wierd little things, they are!
