lots of people on here saying they wish that they had not got an NSR, cos they want a bigger bike now

since i have got my moped i have wanted a bigger bike, but only cos it only goes 50 and cant ride safely on any A road, but if the NSR goes 100, and can ride out with other large bikes, why do you wanna get rid of it?

I personally don't like the sound or feel to 2-strokes anymore...

Plus I'm doing my test soon, so I am actually in the position to get a bigger bike...

If I was 17/18, then I'd probably be happy to keep the bike for a little longer (to buzz to college/uni, whatever)...but I'm gonna graduate soon, and I'm gonna need a real bike for real roads!

...just my personal situation of course...

The NSR may do a ton, but the fact is that a 400+ is gonna do 80mph alot more comfortably than an NSR.

It's not so much the top speed but the acceleration... a bigger bike will still accelerate hard while going fast, which is especially usefull for overtaking (as well as just going fast of course).... My zx gets to the top of 1st at just over 60 in just over 3secs... then redlines in 2nd around 90 not long after.
I find whenever I get a new bike, for the first few weeks it feels really fast, then it wears off and I get bored with it.... I've even got bored with the acceleration on my zx (hmmm... wonder if I could afford insurance on a GSXR1000 next year Smile )....
Saying that it can be a bad thing because it far too easy to go far too fast... I'm sorting out my NSR for local riding so I don't go ridiculously fast on the way to work.

i agree with G, after a few weeks of owning thr bike u get used to it and it feels slow, but then u go to a set of lights and race a mate in a car and u remember how fast it is.

as G said hes bored with his zx6 acceleration, and im bored with the nsrs acceleration!!

what happens once uve got a 1000 and still get bored??

I saw an article about some drag racing in america... The winner of one class had a street legal bike that in (something like) 6.8 seconds got upto 180!.. The ultimate boy-racer shamer?

Unfortunatley for standard bikes you're not geoing to be able to significantly decrease 0-60 times without lengthing the swing arm, which slows the handling down a bit.

Like everyone has said, the top speed is there, but to get you have to absolutely nail the poor little thing (I feel awful every time I red line it and it screams at me). With a bigger bike, the power is there and you don;t have to keep kicking down the gears and snatching your wrist back to get past anything faster than a normal saloon car...It gets tiring when you're riding long distances trying to keep up with Blades and the like. Plus you do get bored of top speed it becomes the norm. I have friends who've said they're bored of 170 because they ahve done it so many times (take a large bag of salt!)

But I think every biker you speak to wants a bigger/faster/better bike.

Yeah your always gonna want something faster- but at the end of the day my bike should do 0-60 in 6.5 secs and non of my mate's cars are anywhere near that. I'll get a bigger bike when my restricted 2 years is up and I've got some no claims.

yeah same bikes are fun round town and up to about 70mph but at 85-100 mph the vibrations really piss you off

If you buy a Kawa zx-12r or a Hayabusa and fit in a turbo (see https://www.mc-xpress.com/), I think it`s going to take a while to get used to 280+/- backwheelpower.

If i do get really bored of my Ninja's performance at some stage then i reckon its time for a new hobby! I accept that you do get used of a bike after a short while, and then it feels the norm, but to say that most people can really wring the neck of a 600 on todays roads and come back to tell the tale, is a bit much i think. Yeah sure acceleration is addictive and i can see G's point that you can get used of that level of performance, after a while, but you cant ride like that on the road, and i spend more time dodging all the twats and sunday drivers on the road than i do wringing my bikes neck. Also acceleration is fine, but no one can corner a modern sports bike to its absolute limit on public roads, so your still never gonna be using the bike to its max potential. I sometimes ride a CB500 when i cant be bothered to get my bike out, and i probably go just as quick with that bike as i would with my bike, and i can still keep up with m8's etc. The biggest limiting factor to going quick is the skill and experience of the rider, (road conditions permitting) so bigger/Faster machinery aint really the answer i feel. Having said all that i think that i fancy a big twin when i change my bike, which is probably 2-3 yrs away. I find my bike a touch buzzy, and sometimes yes more grunt may be good, but in reality more power is not something i really need, even if a yellow RSV R would be welcome in the garage!

Like Keith,(Who owns a few bikes!) I think all bikes have their merits and are part of the rich tapestry of biking. (Blimey that's a bit poetic even for the Mole) Smile Although I pick up my NC30 this week and can't wait, I still
love my NSR, I only wish I could keep both.

There's somthing so right about the sweet handling and the buzz you get
on the little NSR when you flash though a couple of gears within the
power band and the little baby sings! Smile

Brilliant little stroker! love it to bits,

Mole

I Don't regret getting my NSR at all, its taught me a lot of things about riding and even though it does a ton i hardly ever go there.
I think if i hadn't got it and went onto a big bike i would've killed myself.
I ride with a Couple of Fireblades and an old RD350YPVS and guaranteed they want a go of mine cause its so easy to get their knee down and they don't have to fight with the weight of a big bike.
infact i sometimes get a call off them to borrow it if they want to get some easy and quick knee down action.
Infact when i told them it will be going when i pass my test they tried to talk me out of it.
