I have an RK but bizzarrely (oooh how do you spell that?) I have an Aprilia RS can on it....can't be good 'cos they red line at different revs I think...

What would be the best replacement, do you think I should stick a micron on? Hmmm I don't know.

I can personally recommend the Arrow full system, stainless steel expansion chamber and manifold, carbon fibre can. It makes about 2/3 bhp difference.

Haven't had experience with the Micron system but I've seen a few pics and it looks nice as well.

PostPosted: 21:02 - 04 Feb 2002    Post subject: RS Can Reply with quote

Hi

The RS can isnt bad, but a bit bulky. They are not far off a straight through perforated tube with packing around it. However, I doubt it works briliantly, and was probably bodged to fit. The main thing that affect 2 squeak engine performance is the front section of the exhaust (and if that is from the RS, change it quick).

If you want to keep it quiet then get a 2nd hand NSR can, otherwise go for something like an Arrows

All the best

Keith

PS, if you want to sell the RS can then let me know

I'm with Kornel on this one, go for the Arrow system, you can pick them up from www.bandcexpress.co.uk its a good system for the price, which brand new is about 234 quid if i remember rightly. Hope this helps

No, the arrow kit is a full system - unbolt the standard one, bolt in the new one - voila! (Only for bikes after 1993 mind you)

My NSR is 1991. Does that mean the Arrow won't fit.... Hmm, or can I bodge it?

Its a very complex thing that I could explain but its not very interesting. Basically the exhaust has a chamber that uses the sound your engine makes to draw out exhaust gases. Your bike will have different characteristics to the post 93 NSR so it will work but not as effectively as on the bike it was designed for.

Being a poor and hungy student, i cant afford any shiny new exhaust.
So i was just wondering, if anyone had an unscratched original metal exhaust surround, that they would be willing to sell!?!?

Hi

M&P or MPS (cannot remember which) listed carbon figure exhaust wrap for sale. This you wrapped round and secured on a scratched silencer.

All the best

Well i've never heard that one before DrS. I always thought the chamber made pressure resulting in a back pulse to the exaust port in the cylinder to keep all the pekky and 2 stroke in. The pressure of the piston on it's way back up would force the gases out.

So instead of fitting new can on you might want to strap a base tube to your manafold and play loud engine noises...should improve performance

Can anyone remember, or does anyone have the web address for that German motorcycle parts site that was mentioned in our previous chat forums.

As i think they did an metal replacement exhaust surround.
It was probably expensive though.

What do you think my chances are getting one from a breakers?

Well summy finally showing some intelligence. The sound wave draws out the gasses behind the pressure wave then the back pulse is tuned to keep the fresh charge in. Bet you didn't think I could get out of that one did ya.

It doesnt look like you can buy through the internet, and my German language skills are VERY limited.

Why does it feel like i am talking to myself?!?!....

Anyway, i've just realised something.....

THE BENEFIT OF OWNING AN IMPORTED NSR.....

I dont know about other import owners, but i have got very good at converting miles into kilometres.
I have just realised that Pounds into Euros is practically exactly the same conversion ratio.
SO went the evil Mr Blair makes up all go Euro, us import owners will find it easypeasylemonsqueezy!

I know a lot of people that ordered there and they seem to be ok.

How about putting a dep can on it. They sell one for £60 in carnell. Not sure how you would attatch it beacuse on my rk the can is weleded to the rest of the pipe. How is your aprilia can attatched cause i was wondering if i could change my silencer to give it a better sound. And the good thing about this silencer is that its fully road legal. Hope this helps

The DEP system is only the silencer, to attach it u need to chop off the original 1 and get it welded on!!!

THE DEP CAN IS NOT ROAD LEGAL!!!!

but who cares

Its got an oversized outlet aswel!!!
and only 50 note in some places!!

Thats the can to get if ur short of cash

Couldnt u just use a bit of gun gum paste to seal the exhaust on with as the actual silencer is held in place with a bolt so only a seal needs to be made. N e ideas on how much it would cost 2 get it welded?? Sorry, the one on my DT 50 used to be road legal. By oversized exhaust do u just mean it has a larger bore?

Thanks
