From your youth state the horror scare stories of the future that never occurred and you probably didn't believe

I'll start you off with 2

Oil will completely run out by 2003 and the world economy will utterly collaspe unless man can make an alternative to it.

and of course the Y2K bug , how I laughed my ass off at those folks who sold everything moved off to Rural scotland , and the doom bringers who conviently charged handsome sums to fix such problems were completely proven wrong!.

The big one when I was a kid was that by the year 2000 we'd be living in a kind of '1984' state, where your every move would be tracked by cameras and microchips. Where the multi billion pound corporations ruled the world using the Government and the media to manipulate the population. People would have to carry ID cards like in Nazi Germany, and every fact about you would be held on file by the powers that be. Criminal gangs would make the streets out of bounds for normal folk after dark, and defenceless old folk would be murdered in their homes for a few measly quid.

Glad that was just made up kids stuff, eh? Sad

An asteroid is going to hit and kill us all.
Another asteroid is going to hit and kill us.
Doomsday. <- Pretty much every fucking year that ones nigh.

Countless more I can't think of right now.

Crossroads was still gonna be prime time TV in the 21st century.

George from Rainbow would grow up into a fockin' great big Pink Hippopotamus and eat George, Bungle and Zippy.

Rod, Jane and Freddy would be presenting Antiques Roadshow in 2002.

Alex Kidd would turn into Alex Bloke and SEGA would release a game called Alex Bloke in Lapdance Land.

Don King to promote a fight between Orville and Cuddles at Madison Square Garden - Keith Harris to retain only 5% of the purse for the bout.

Nookie Bear to star in his own Ameteur 'Blue Film' entitled 'Rookie Nookie Bear Bare'.

Enid Blyton to release a sequel to 'The Famous Five' entitled 'The Fantastic Four' before Marvel Comics think of the idea - Julian, Dick, Anne and George are the four hero's whilst Timmy The Dog is written out of the series due to him crapping in Blyton's Morris Minor.

Slinky to be used as removable sleeves on chainmail vests.

Kids to eat fast food served, cooked and marketed by fockin' clowns Confused

Steve H to 'friggin well grow up'

Not as 'big' as asteriods, etc. But my dad works at one of the few remaining coal mines left in the UK and the predicted that it would close down years and years ago. But it didn't.... Rolling Eyes

I got £600 + 4x hourly rate (about a grand all in) for working new years eve Smile
I didn't even have to work past 17:00 - The only year it was a bank holiday too Smile piece of piss

To be fair tho there was a huge amount of work our firm had to do in the years leading up to it. (Our software was NOT Y2K compliant - 1000's applications needed checking/fixing)

But our washing machine didn't go on a rampage or anything exciting

Our software WAS Y2K compliant, and we had nothing to do until a twat of a director told the user group that there was a fault and it would be fixed free of charge. We had to change every sodding place on the system a date was entered, from a perfectly good native check to some half assed routine that worked the way HE thought it should.

Simple enough change, but there were about 25 bespoke systems, all which had to be fully QC'd from top to bottom, redelivered, user tested and rolled out. Took us 8 months. Wanker.
