Advice needed on Ignition lead change....

Hi there,

My bandit 400VP has been playing up alot in the rain and ive been told that its probably because the ignition leads are old (and crap as stock according to info on this forum). They say '1993' on them.

Problem is, im not sure on what leads to order or how to change them. It looks like they come as part of the ignition coils. Am i right or can you just pull them out and replace?

There's 3 general types:

Molded, all-in-one leads, just pull them out, occasionally have a clip arangement you have to release. Expensive and more normally found on cars. You basically have to order the right ones for your bike.

Cheaper ones that just screw out (sometimes after unscrewing a cap or pulling off a rubber boot). You can just replace these with HT lead which you can buy by the meter. Nice and cheap.

Finally, there are some evil ones around that are glued or molded into the coil, but I've not actually seen one of those for a while.

At that age, it's probably a good idea to replace the plug caps as well, which you'll be doing anyway if they are molded leads.

You can change them on a 400 bandit, i think they screw into the coil. It's a good idea to change the caps as well.
