Hi all
Im having problems getting my derbi gpr 125 (2 stroke) to start up.
Its been stood for a few weeks and now im getting major problems starting it.
I bought a decent optimate charger last week and i get the feeling that the battery is a bit screwed cos its been stood for so long, however, im trying to start it using a jusmp start pack so i know theres enough juice available to start it.
Ive just changed the plug over, and tested it outside the case and am getting a spark.
after the plugs been in the case and i tried starting it, i removed it again and its covered in petrol - like i belive should happen - but its just not starting.
i managed to get it going once this morning after fitting the new plug, but its just wheezed and died after a few seconds.
im kinda running out of idea apart from just getting a new battery and hoping that works. in any case would the bike still start and run cos im using the jump start pack?
As the bikes been outside im also thinking there there could be some dampness or something in the carbs / engine, is there anything i can do to check for this.
Any other suggestions greatly recieved.
thnks
Gaz.

UPDATE.
as i was writing this post and doing a bit of research on the net, i left the airbox ducting off the carb in a hope it could dry out any flooding etc.
i just finished th epost and went outside and tried starting it, and it ticked over Smile
just not very well Sad
Its really difficult to start still, but itll now run for about 30 seconds, but as soon as i seem to touch the throttle, it just wheezes and dies. could this be a dampness thing?

Have you cleaned the carb/air filter?

You may have to take the bowl off to clean the float, even if it isnt this, mine always runs nice after i clean it.

Himself says it sounds like your jets are blocked, probably with water in the float bowl.

If that's the case you will have to take the carbs ad the float bowl off to clean it properly, there is no way around it unfortunately. Sad

you say that when you get it started it idles but when you touch the throttle it dies...
mine(cagiva supercity 125) sometimes does that if it hasnt been started in a while, what i do is leave it running for about 3mins with the choke on so it has a chance to warm up! and every now and again slowly pull back on the throttle not grab handfuls and open it up, just enough the get the engine off the idle and hold it for a few seconds repeat a few times and then the bike should be fine.

let us know how you get on Thumbs Up

Ello. thanks for all the replies.
Just tried starting i tagain, and its gone back to the first state now, where its the starter motors turning, but its not ticking over.
Im thinking that the carb cleaning thing is the way to go at the moment cos the bike has been stood outside for quite a while, even though its been covered for most of the bad weather, theres a good chance that water could have got in there cos it has got wet.
I know that the battery is toally fooked cos the optimate charger i bought last weeks is now saying that the batterys deep discharged or sulphated, so im gonna grab myself a replacement for that tomorrow.
With regards to the carb cleaning thing, do you reckon i have a go at it myself or take it into the garage. Ive not really done much playing with the engine yet so is it something that im likely to completey fook up Smile
Ive got the service manual for the bike and it does tell you how to remove the carb, buts its vague at best and the pictures are a bit crap so i wouldnt really have much guidance.
Thanks for the advice.
Gaz.
