because aliminium oxidises you'll need to protect it from the air,
so the only real thing you can do is spray it with a clear coat paint,
as for dirt,... hot soapy water and ebow grease (its hard to find sometimes) Very Happy

Other than lacquer, which goes yellow eventually and clearcoating which dulls the finish a bit you need a protector type polish. About the best is Belgom Alu, gives a final shine and a "wax" coat to protect it so you don't need to polish as often. Get it from bike accessory and polishing places.

A super smooth finish will help. After the Autosol stage then go onto the Belgom Alu as mentioned. I've just done this with my yokes too. The Belgom is a lot finer than Autosol and indeed provides a wax finish. It is designed with polished alloy motorbike parts in mind, so is the perfect choice.

Personally I used a drill mop kit as it takes a lot of the effort out as you can autosol on the fine mop. 5mins on the mop must be worth a good hour by hand.

This is the yoke, before the Belgom alu.

It now has a brighter, cleaner polished look to it without the micro fine scratches autosol left behind.

If you don't have one I'd highly recommend an 8" bench grinder with a set of polishing wheels.

They'll polish anything to an unbelievable shine when used with the right compounds and mops, so much of a shine that Belgom Alu will leave scratches in it!
