Guys

Anyone reccomend a cheap online store to buy a new chain and sprocket set for my CB500? Preferably talon, and looking to downgear also.

Been slack with my adjustments, and now my chain is rubbing on one leg of the centre stand!!! :S

www.bandcexpress.co.uk

They supply renthal sprockets rather than talon, and tsubaki chain which I regard as the best available. O-ring chain is £50 ish, X-ring gold about £65, drive kit o-chain and sprockets about £88 I believe, you won't buy good quality any cheaper.

Any idea what the codes mean on the sprockets, eg:

Standard size Silver rear

179C-525-40-S

£ 26.00

Optional size Silver rear

179C-525-41

£ 23.89

Optional size Silver rear

179C-525-42

£ 26.00

Optional size Plain front

286-525-14

£ 17.02

Standard size Plain front

286-525-15-S

£ 17.02

I assume to downgear it I just get the option plain front?

(Optional size Plain front

286-525-14

£ 17.02)

assuming 14 indicates a drop of one tooth on the sprocket?

That's right, the first part of the code - 179C - is the fit (specific to bike), the second - 525 - indicates the chain pitch, and the third - 40 - is the number of teeth. The S indicates the standard sprocket size in teeth.
To downgear for less top speed and greater acceleration either drop down one tooth on the front or go up 1 - 3 teeth on the rear.
