My exhaust has split between the end can and pipe leading to it, the end can end of the downpipe system so only a single pipe.

What problems will this cause in terms of running the bike bar the noise? Can I still use the bike as long as both parts of the exhaust are secured onto the bike?

It'll probably run a wee bit lean. You might find it vents hot exhaust gas in odd directions which could damage parts of your bike (someone on here had their exhaust system come apart recently and it effectively wrote-off the bike, a phenomenal amount of damage).

Why not get it welded back together? The end can has been welded back onto my GPZ three times now. Piss easy unless it rusted off or is made of stainless/titanium.

I havent got access to any welding equipment although my old man can weld and get some, ideally would use my bike tomorrow and Friday though.

It's 200 miles in just those two days though, long commute.

What sort of damage could happen?

Stainless can be welded just as easily as mild steel if you have a decent MIG. Just need to purchase the appropriate wire (bit pricey) and gas.

I was under the impression you have to really know what you are doing to weld a stainless exhaust. The constant heat cycling makes them crack above the weld if you don't get the thickness and penetration just so. Hell, I've even had shop-bought stainless exhausts split round the welds.

I wouldn't like to say. I rode my KLE 400 miles (in a oner) with the exhaust end-can in one of my panniers but it is running a pretty much straight through can anyway.

If there is still a 'stub' left on the can, cut the ends off a baked bean can, split it down the middle and wrap it round the cracked area. Fix it down with a jubilee clip either side of the split. As long as there isn't too much gas escaping, it should last 'till the weekend. The one I fitted on my KLE lasted about 60 miles but I didn't have any jubilee clips and didn't fit it very well.
