Alpinestar's gear has recently been going downhill in terms of quality, thinner leather and coarser. RST are a good budget make. Alpinestars is generally worn by tarts like me and a few others, but their top of the line stuff is really flash. And if anybody asks that aint a biker, just say alpinestars is like the gucci of motorcycle gear, you pay for the name. Having said that, i'm satisfied with my SX-1 race jacket and T-dyno and stuff. ____________________ The Tot 2007 Yamaha R1 4C8 2002 Yamaha FZS1000 Fazer &

Alpinestars fits slimmer people better, if you're of more generous proportions RST maybe better.
I have alpinestars (10 stone 18 year old, go figure) and one of my biking mates has RST (12ish stone 40ish y/o) I can't fault mine and see can't fault his, so see which fits you better. ____________________ My Flickr |

I had a pair of year old Alpinestars SX-1 boots split in a 30mph crash. They split along the inside of the big toe in an impact I'd expect trainers to survive better. They actually didn't catch anything causing them to tear, it must have been the pressure from the heel sliding on the tarmac. I slid along the road on my arse and back for a while then stood up when I'd stopped. Needless to say I don't buy A* boots any more.
I also used to own an A* 1 piece suit, the build quality didn't seem too bad but it had a wierd fit. Tight on the arms, legs and shoulders but the thing had a massive saggy arse. It didn't last too long until I sold it on Ebay, admittedly I didn't really have a use for it either. |
