Hi

I've had a car license for 4 years, I have 3 points that are 3 years old.

I've been given 2 NIPs, each consisting of 3 points, that's an extra 6, 9 now in total.

I only recently passed my DAS and added motorbike entitlement fully to my license.

Does the 6 point/2 year probation period reset when you take DAS, and add full motorbike entitlement to your license?

I think the answer is no, but my friends reckons it'll go on the bike license.

Cheers.

Your friends are trying to wind you up. The lisence is one item which contains an additonal catagory for the bike.

As I said in your previous post, you are well clear of your probation period. If you took some time to look at the rules you would see that the restriction period only applies to your first licence.

Tim

Is is three years and your original points will be cleared anyway?

So only leaves you with 6 points tut-tut! Wink

But as already said, base it on your original licence, so no worries.

sweet i think that clears the air for me aswell. I have had my bike license for over 2 years now and my car license for just over a year, in my first bike riding year i was lucky enough to score 3 points by a temporary speed gun, so now does this mean i could get another 9, in either my car or bike before a ban?

Thats what I thought, but I read this... Unless I don't understand it properly.

Endorsements and disqualifications

The amount of time in which an endorsement remains on your licence depends on the type of offence committed. The date in which the endorsement starts also depends on the type of offence.

Endorsements must remain on a licence for 11 years from date of conviction if the offence is:

* drinking/drugs and driving (shown on the licence as DR10, DR20, DR30 and DR80)
* causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of drink/drugs (shown on the licence as CD40, CD50 and CD60)
* causing death by careless driving, then failing to provide a specimen for analysis (shown on the licence as CD70)

Endorsements must remain on a licence for four years from date of conviction if the offence is:

* reckless/dangerous driving (shown on the licence as DD40, DD60 and DD80)
* offences resulting in disqualification
* disqualified from holding a full licence until a driving test has been passed

Endorsements must remain on a licence for four years from the date of offence in all other cases.

Just found some more info, they are valid for 3 years, but remain on your license for 4 - wtf!!
How long do my penalty points last for?

Conviction for certain motoring offences can result in the endorsement of the driving licence with penalty points. Penalty points last 3 years from the date of the offence but remain on the licence for 4 years (11 years for drinking or drug offences).

If 12 or more points are accumulated within 3 years the driver will be disqualified; however the courts are given limited powers not to disqualify in exceptional circumstances. The 3-year term is measured from the date that the latest offence was committed.

After disqualification under the totting up procedure, the existing points will be removed from the licence but the licence will refer to the disqualification for 4 years (11 years for alcohol or drugs driving offences). A form to apply for the removal of penalty points is available from the Post Office.

What;s the point in having them on there when they are effectively spent?

This is very good news Very Happy i don't mind 6 points too much.

Points are only valid for 3 years, but you can't have 'em removed untin 4 years has passed. As far as I know it's always been like that since I've had my licence.......... Fuck knows why though. Confused

So if you got 9 points in one year, three years later you got another 3 points, you'd technically have only 3 points but your licence would show 12?

Hi,

The 2 years are from the the date you pass your first full test.

The points remain on your licence for 4 years (even though they are not counted afer 3) so that the court can see you have been a naughty boy when deciding on your sentance for future offence.

Regards
charlotte

Hi,

You have 6 points in the 2 years after your first test pass and 12 after that.

It does not matter what you get the points on (car or bike) or which test you passed first.

When you get 6 in the first 2 years then the licence is revoked (you are not banned) and you have to retake your test.

After the 2 years you are banned at 12 points so the 4th 3 point nip in 3 years band you.

So greenmeenie
If your points are > 3 years old they dont count if they are not they do.
So if you have 3 points you can get another 8 before you are banned.

Not that when the points are counted it is based on the date of the offence not when you are convicted for speeding offences (for some offence it is conviction date)

Regards
Charlotte
