Sorry to post more of this but...

Move to sweden etc. leaving Hornet here for the time being.
Thought about dual purpose.
Another thought is to grab a supermoto/enduro.

What off-road bike would you recommend that will be ok on tarmac? (for commutes and bobbing around on)

Thinking if I do this I'll fetch the Hornet over some time in the future.

Money £3K - £6K depending on on-road manners.

Hi

How long are you going for? What are taxes like for buying a bike in Sweden? Might well be worthwhile to keep a UK registered bike and use it there if you can in any way justify it.

Well, I'm going for good. My other half is Swedish and I want my 16 month old son to go through school there for obvious reasons.

I did think about keeping the hornet here, but as I think about it I will have to keep it insured, and for the few weeks a year at most I will spend back here, I might as well hire.

So although I was thinking of a road bike with off-road capabilities, if I am gonna take the hornet across, then I might as well go a little more off-road stylee, so I have the best of both worlds.

Hi

Seriously check the taxes involved. Some of the scandinavian countries have very high vehicle taxes. If you could avoid these by importing a bike you already owned and had done so for some time it would be worthwhile.

Could always sell it a year down the line.

I have all my transport booked. As such I would be without a bike for months. I also want something that can go off-road Smile

Anyway looking at prices on Swedish sites they are fairly comparable.

Just want some bike suggestions Smile

A nice alternative to the Bimmer is the Aprilia Caponord......

a Honda FMX650 ? , its a dominator engine and is strong <60mph , and has high mud guards long travel suspension slightly road biased , and you can do some fantastic stuff on that like ride OVER cars , speed way the bloody thing.

or a Suzi DR400 , dual one , light 38bhp OK

or a DR350 indestructable.

Or any KTM

Ok... worth thinking about. As I said - gonna get a test ride of a 625 KTM hopefully this weekend sometime.

Get thee an XJ1300 , Fran took that one off the road once @ 100+ and was ok , Fran is a bit nuts though

I agree with kickstart here, not sure about taxes/costs, but there are some seriously worthwhile benefits to running a UK registered bike abroad... speed cameras? don't apply to you Smile its like being above the law Very Happy
Not sure I understand your exact situation but if you can I'd buy the bike in the UK and take it out there Thumbs Up

They have a similar rule to here I think... You can run it for a certain length of time before registering it there. I am going for good, so only a short term idea anyway.
Also as I've said, I move in March, and the transport is booked and paid for, so I would be withouty my bike for at least 6 months...


*EDIT If you take a car abroad within EU, it has to be registered within 6 months...

Just loving the Aprilia's at the mo.

I'm Italian and I've been living in England since I was 7.

Truth is, I love all English/Italian bikes. Yes, they may not be as reliable as the japs, but I think the Triumphs/Ducatis/Aprilias of this world have so much more soul than the ZRXRRSRTZZ Jap models.

I mean:

Aprilia Caponord
Triumph Tiger
Speed Triple
Tuono

These are real names for real machines.

Having said that, I own a Kawasaki ER6n coz its my first bike and I wanted something cheap and cheerful to learn on/insure - as I commute on it every day.

When I have a bit more wonga, I will get myself a Speed Triple and an RSV Mille R for some proper biking at the weekend.

And yes, I may consider a Jap bike for really focused trackdays.

Now that I've finished making sweeping generalisations, I will crawl back into my hole. Mr. Green

Not going to be very good off road compared to a normal sized off roader.

They are designed to get across continents through mud, not to do some light green laning.

If you're serious about the off roading and with that budget I would look at two bikes if you can.

Even if one's a bigger trail style bike.

Most bikes are ok for some gentle green laning, but if you want to push it a bit more, then it's definitely worth going for an off roader which you can keep proper knobblies on.

As far as Jap names:

While of course Ducati's naming convetion isn't that imaginative etc.
